PinchukandNewsomeareamong70outstandingfacultymembersandstudentsfrom35institutionsinMississippitobe honored. OnAppreciationDay,whichtakesplaceinFebruaryinJackson,thehonoreeswillvisittheStateCapitol,wheretheywillbe welcomedbythelieutenantgovernorandrecognizedineachchamberoftheLegislature.Aluncheonwillfollow,whereeach studentandfacultymemberisrecognizedbynameinfrontoftheirguests,institutionleaders,corporatesponsorsandlegislators. Pinchuk,associateprofessorofbiology,isthe2010FacultyMemberoftheYearatMUW.BornandraisedinUkraine,he graduatedfromKievMedicalSchoolin1981andwentontocompleteanM.D./Ph.Dprograminmedicalgeneticsatthe AcademyofMedicalSciencesoftheUSSR.AfterbeinginvitedtoworkasapostdoctoralfellowattheUniversityofSouthern Californiain1990,hetaughtatMississippiStateUniversityfrom19982004.HejoinedMUWin2004. NewsomeisaseniorchemistryandpsychologymajorfromJackson.HeisthepresidentofMUWsStudentGovernment AssociationandSeniorClassCouncilandvicepresidentofPhiKappaPhi.Newsomehasworkedasatutorandisalsoinvolved inactivitiessuchasAlphaEpsilonDeltaPremedicalHonorSociety,HearinLeadershipCouncilandKappaMuEpsilon MathematicsSociety.HeplanstoattendtheUniversityofSouthAlabamaMedicalSchoolinthefall. "Ididn'tevenknowIwasintherunning,butwhenIfoundoutjustwhatHEADWAEwas,IwashonoredthatI'devenbe considered.ThiswilljustbeoneofthemanywonderfulmemoriesthatI'vegainedfrombeingatthisamazingcampus," Newsomesaid.
