Version 6.0 was to ha e a full year of foru" tech su!!ort and ha e any necessary bug fixes !ro ided. As ti"e went on after 6.0 was released a few things cons!ired to influence "e to not only better "aintain 6.0 but to also collect the arious bugfixes and !rogra" u!dates and !ro ide one "ore $S% release for the 6.& series. 'he continued sustained high nu"ber of downloads of 6.0 as well as the generous su!!ort fro" users e en when they were aware that AV Linux was not to be acti ely de elo!ed were a great source of encourage"ent to (ee! the !ro#ect ali e. Lastly a ery !ositi e !rint "agazine article )unfortunately not a ailable online* in 'Linux +or"at' "agazine fro" the ,- was (indly obtained and "ailed to "e by AV Linux user '##fro'. Seeing AV Linux in a well.recei ed !rint article in a !ublished "agazine fro" another country was the final nudge to !ush "e to !ut together this 6.0./ release. $t is ery i"!ortant to clarify that the Debian Squeeze base of AV Linux has "atured and the new Debian stable release )0.0 '1heezy'* has #ust finally re!laced Squeeze at the ti"e of this writing. Squeeze has been a ery solid and reliable base and e en though it has aged if anything it is "ore reliable due to a cou!le of years of accu"ulated bug fixing and attention to dee! syste" details. 'o "y (nowledge this 6.0./ release will be unri aled in both the reliability and efficiency of the base but also the "aturity and full realization of !otential in the included a!!lications. Due to the ne er.ending de elo!"ent in the Linux software world ob iously all !ro#ects co"e to a crossroads when 'holding steady' can quic(ly turn to swi""ing against the current and therefore beco"e unsustainable. AV Linux is different than a lot of Linux %S's out there in "any res!ects3 one of the" being the inclusion of a full de elo!"ent en iron"ent within it. 'his "eans that the de!endencies to fetch the source code3 co"!ile it and !ac(age "ost of the included a!!lications are all included ready for you to use. All of these de elo!"ent libraries add u! to a significant a"ount of disc s!ace so that is one reason... AV Linux also contains a lot of a!!lications that are !ro ided as binary self.contained bundles that ha e their own runti"e de!endencies within the bundle3 so"e exa"!les are ;lender3 =oogle <hro"e3 S(y!e3 6ixbus3 2enoise3 4ianoteq etc. 'his is actually a good thing because the creators of these bundled a!!s "aintain the de!endencies the"sel es and therefore ha e control o er which su!!ort libraries wor( best with their own a!!lications3 the downside is that these !ac(ages can be quite large and therefore ta(e u! "ore $S% s!ace. Lastly the 2e"astersys tools that are used to create AV Linux don't ha e as aggressi e a default co"!ression setting to create the 'squashfs' $S% $"age as "ainline Distros li(e ,buntu use3 this is actually a good thing as well because the less co"!ressed the $S% is the less syste" resources required to unco"!ress the Li eDVD i"age on.the.fly.
