AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy Aims to Raise Graduation Rates and Help Students Explore Career Possibilities Baltimore, MD April 10, 2014 Baltimore City and Baltimore County high school students are getting a firsthand look at career opportunities beyond high school, thanks to Junior Achievement of Central Maryland and AT&Ts Aspire Mentoring Academy. AT&T and JA are teaming up to help 100 students at Digital Harbor High School, Ben Franklin High School, and Randallstown High School graduate school ready for college and careers. This work-based career exploration program will take place at a local AT&T office, where students have the opportunity to learn about various careers within the company and the telecommunications industry and practice workplace readiness skills with AT&T employees. The event will take place on Thursday April 10, 2014, at AT&Ts corporate building in Hanover, MD. Aspire Mentoring Academy is AT&Ts nationwide mentoring program that aims to address the nations dropout crisis and broaden students awareness of career opportunities in their own communities. Through Aspire Mentoring Academy, AT&T is helping to raise high school graduation rates by providing students one million hours of mentoring by AT&T employees by the end of 2016. The program focuses on students at risk of dropping out and helps connect what theyre learning in school with their future career options. Mentoring at AT&T workplaces is a critical part of Aspires program of showing students firsthand the connection between the classroom and career success. Working with local organizations, such as Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, the program also provides students the opportunity to learn about careers in the telecommunications industry, practice interviewing skills, and discuss life goals, beginning with the importance of high school graduation as a foundation for future success. "Our collaboration with Junior Achievement provides these Baltimore-area students career exploration activities that can help motivate them to stay in school and achieve meaningful careers," said Robert Forsyth, vice president and general manager for AT&T in the greater Washington/Baltimore area. We have developed a strong relationship over the years with JA to provide these job shadowing opportunities in Baltimore and nationwide.
