John will share materials and strategies on how to involve students actively in their education and transition planning, how to reduce stigma in our community and how to improve outcomes.

Alternate Pathways & New Graduation Options for Students with Disabilities Presenter: Cathy Pantelides, Assistant Admin. Coordinator for Transition Eastern Suffolk BOCES RSE-TASE

Learn about the "sunsetting" of Regents Competency Tests; extension of the Safety Net to include the Compensatory Option; changes to the GED High School Equivalency; elimination of the IEP diploma; and the new Skills and CDOS Credentials effective June 2014.

Childhood Trauma: Evidenced-based Treatments Presenter: Dr. Juliet Vogel Hofstra University North Shore LIJ Medical School This workshop will discuss the multi-faceted nature of psychological trauma and its impact on children and youth and their families. Developments over the past 15 years in establishing evidence-based childhood trauma treatments will be discussed, including both common elements and different emphases based on issues such as developmental stage of the child and the nature of the trauma(s). Resources will be discussed that are available to parents and community members to help them further understand these issues and be informed advocates and consumers.

Social Media & Youth Culture: What Helps, What Harms? Presenters: Denine Anderson-Regan and Stephanie McGowan NC Family Support System Of Care

Youth engagement on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and YouTube can be therapeutic, traumatic or a combination. Stories from LIFTs Girls Group reveal positive aspects (connection to strength-based friendships, charities and advocacy) and negative (cyber-bullying, sexting, suicide and the stigma that surrounds mental health concerns online).

Substance Use and Young People: Trends on Long Island

Presenter: Lisa Ganz, LMSW, CASAC Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence
Tips for preventing drug use and building healthy coping skills among young people are offered in this workshop that presents an overview of substance use and addiction on Long Island. Learn what the regions current trends are in drug use.

SUICIDE PREVENTION AND QPR (QUESTION, PERSUADE AND REFER) Presenter: Dr. Max Banilivy, Asst Director at Pederson-Krag Center Huntington

This workshop will provide information on the PROS model and how it particularly works with the young adults. The audience will learn about a support network of professionals and peers in place that inspires and motivates each individual in achieving their goal. Terrys Place PROS is a resource designed to help individuals move forward on their life goals. Employment is also a strong part of the program.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. Learn the common causes and warning signs of suicide, plus how to get help for yourself or someone in crisis. .

Growing evidence shows that gaming improves young people's emotional, social and psychological well-being, and playing as a family can build stronger relationships. We will highlight research and personal experiences on how video games positively affect skills, values, academics and cooperation.
