2.9. Print Head Circuit

Fig. 2.9 Print Head Circuit Diagram

TPH_CLK and /TPH_LAT are connected to thermal head control clock and data latch respectively. TPH_EN and TPH_5V_E signals control the VMM voltage of the thermal head. When TPH_EN and TPH_5V_E are both high, the thermal head will be separated from 5V (VDD). U9 controls protecting print head. It is used to make sure the power of print head is off when switch off the printer. Q3 and Q4 are used to limit current of print head. STB1, STB2 and STB3 determine whether to heat the thermal head or not. The RC charging time of U6 and U7A limit the heating time of print head to avoid burning the print head. TPH_DATA signal sends printer data to the print head. TPH_TM signal is the temperature/voltage sensor for thermal head. TPH_V_DET signal feeds back the voltage and compensates the heat time for voltage accuracy when printing.

2.10. Stepping Motor Drive / Protection Circuit

Fig. X Stepping Motor Drive / Protection Circuit Diagram

Connector, JP4 (Pin 1~Pin 4), sends the pattern as shown in table1. The status of MS1 & MS2 determines the microstep resolution. The microstep resolution pattern is shown in table2. /MOTOR_RESET signal is a protection pin. When it is at low level, the power of the motor system will be closed. Power will be on again until /MOTOR_RESET signal is the pulse of high level. Step Input (STEP). A low-to-high transition on the STEP input sequences the translator and advances the motor one increment. The translator controls the input to the DACs and the direction of current flow in each winding. Direction Input (DIR). The state of the DIRECTION input will determine the direction of rotation of the motor. Sleep Mode (SLEEP). An active-low control input used to minimize power consumption when not in use. This disables much of the internal circuitry including the outputs. A logic high allows normal operation and startup of the device in the home position. Table 1 Pin on Step JP4 1 2 3 4 on on
