Question 3 Marks Answer

(a) 1 Making the right inference
The mass of boiling water affects the heat (energy) given to the
hand
(b) 1 Building an appropriate hypothesis
The bigger the mass , the greater the heat (energy) released
(c)(i) 1 Stating the aim of the experiment
To study the relationship between the mass and heat (energy)
released
(ii) Stating the correct variables
1 Manipulated variable : mass of water
Responding variable : time taken// amount of heat
1 Fixed variable : power of heater// increase in temperature

(iii) 1 List of appropriate apparatus and material

Immersion heater, thermometer, water, stop watch

(OR experiment involving the heating of slotted weights(mass-

MV) in boiling water and then measuring the increase in
temp(RV) infixed time of fixed amount of water)

(iv) 1 Describing set up of the apparatus

Question 4 Marks Answer

(a) 1 Making the right inference
Rate of oscillations / frequency depends on the
diameter/thickness of the string
(b) 1 Building an appropriate hypothesis
The thicker the diameter of the string, the lower the frequency//
The thinner the diameter of the string, the higher the frequency

To investigate the relationship between the thickness of a wire
and the frequency of the oscillations
(ii) Stating the correct variables
1 Manipulated variable : Thickness of wire
Responding variable : Frequency of oscillation

1 Fixed variable : Length of wire
