WD SmartWare Pro Software

Your WD Elements drive includes a free 30-day trial of the WD SmartWare Pro backup software. The WD SmartWare Pro backup software makes backups easy. The choice is yours: automatic, continuous backup; scheduled backup; or cloud backup. Choose the option that works for you and help protect your precious memories. WD SmartWare Pro backup software helps you protect your digital life - family photos, financial documents, music and more. With local and cloud backup, the choice is yours whether to back up to your local external hard drive or back up to the cloud using Dropbox *. *A Dropbox account is required for cloud backup. Dropbox accounts can be changed, terminated, or interrupted without notice at any time.

System Requirements
To download, install, and run the WD SmartWare Pro software, your computer must be:

Connected to the Internet Running one of the following Windows operating systems: o Windows XP o Windows Vista o Windows 7 o Windows 8

Installation Instructions
To get started: 1. Verify that your computer is connected to the Internet. 2. Connect the WD Elements drive to your computer. 3. Click Cancel to close the Windows found-new-hardware dialog. 4. Use your computer's file management utility to open the WD Elements drive listing. 5. Click to open the WD SmartWare Pro Free Trial folder. 6. Double-click to run the WDSmartWareProFreeTrial.exe application file. 7. Click Download on the WD SmartWare dialog to open the WD SmartWare Pro Free 30-day Trial page on the WD Store website. 8. Click Free 30-day Trial to display the WD Service & Support download page. 9. On the WD Service & Support download page: a. Type your email address in the E-mail address box. b. Type your first name in the First Name box. c. Type your last name in the Last Name box. d. Use the Backup Storage selector to specify WD Elements.

e. Click Submit. 10. Note that a message with a link to download the software has been sent to your email address, and that it is valid for 24 hours. 11. Use your email application to open the message from Western Digital Support: WD SmartWare Pro Trial Version Download. 12. To open the WD SmartWare Pro Software Trial Version download page on the WD Service & Support website, either: Click the link in the email message Copy the links URL and paste it into the location bar on your Web browser. 13. On the download page, click Download Now to open the Windows File Download dialog for the setup.zip file. 14. On the Windows File Download dialog: a. If you want to install the software now, use your zip file application to open the setup.zip file and extract the WDSmartWareSetup.exe file, then proceed to step 15. b. If you want to save the file and install the software later, click Save and skip to step 16. 15. To install the software: a. Double-click to run the WD SmartWare Setup.exe file and display the WD SmartWare setup wizard. b. Click Next. c. Read the license agreement, select the I accept the terms of the License Agreement check box and click Install to continue d. Wait for the installation to complete. e. When the installation completes, click Finish to close the WD SmartWare Setup Wizard. f. To signify a successful installation, the WD SmartWare software: Briefly displays the WD SmartWare software logo Displays the Select Backup Devices screen to get started with your first backup g. Follow the on-screen instructions and use the info/online help icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to set up and enable your first backup. 16. On the Windows Save As dialog: a. Browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the setup.zip file. Note: If you think you might be installing the software on multiple computers, consider saving it on the WD Elements drive. b. Click Save. c.

When the download completes, click Close to close the Download Complete display. d. When you are ready to install the software, use your zip file application to extract the WDSmartWareSetup.exe file from the setup.zip file and then and complete step 15.
