For underground coal mine operations optimising safety is a given, especially when selecting from electrical equipment options. Roobuck Tunnel Lighting Systems now offers real choice in terms of safety, servicability, cost efficiencies, and transferability of lighting installations, whether they be undergound work areas, tunnels, wet areas washeries, rigs, shutes, or walkways. !ormally powered by "#$%&' or (($%&', and formerly of the traditional flourescent tube type, or even more recently deployed L)*s, such lighting systems were still deficient. +ines had to pay careful attention to issues of safety and ha,ards, layout design was at times compromised or limited, maintenance and operating costs were high, and installation, removal and relocation operations remained complicated. &ustralia-s first )L% Tunnel Lighting System, has been designed and manufactured by Roobuck, in &ustralia, with approval to carry the .&ustralian +ade. logo. The total system comprises a variable number of L)* Tunnel Light modules connected via /unction bo0es and is powered from a step1down transformer with 2"%&' in the secondary. 3t is designed for general lighting immediately outside ha,ardous areas in underground mines. The light modules can also be used individually, eg., for application at coal processing plants, either using all Roobuck equipment, or the operator4s transformer, where suitable. The light model is coded RLT&( and meets )+' standard. Safe operation is assured as it is powered from 2"%&' and the whole light module is completely encapsulated, so 3567 standard is guaranteed. &ll )lectrical Leads comply with mining standards and they are permanently attached to the light. The default transformer is a "#$ #(8 ($$$%&' ingress to 2"%&' egress step1down transformer complying with mining standards for (k%& capacity. There are two types of /unction bo0es, the large /unction bo0es direct power to one loom with a number of L)* modules, the small /unction bo0 powers only two L)* modules. &ll electrical cables connecting /unction bo0es and the transformer comply with mining standards. 'ustomers can also choose to use their own transformer, /unction bo0es or cables if preferred, and they meet the standard.

The three basic components 1 Transformer, 9unction :o0es and L)* Lights +odules, will be interconnected in different configurations, according to the particular needs and requirements.

Low +aintenance costs, as such low voltage operation allows maintenance work to be done on live operating systems with safety. 3567 standard and L)* light source make the lighting very robust. Bith L)* lights, there is no need to replac the lamp, bulb or tube. Full encapsulation means no flashpoint incident if the light module becomes wet. 3nstallation could not be easier. =ou can quickly mount up a light and connect to a /unction bo0 in seconds. Therefore, the system is particularly suitable for temporary deployment such as with a longwall installation. 3t can be quickly dismantled for use in other or future installations. !CT)> Test Report from !&T& accredited laboratory, *esign Risk &ssessment document, and 3nstallation 3nstruction +anuals, are readily available for customers, in compliance with mining regulations.
