Geographic Information Systems (GIS) combines layers of information about locations to give Veterans a better understanding of a particular area. The attribute data will connect the individual to their specific objectives.
Apply sophisticated rules and relationships between data. Build advanced geospatial relational models (Topology,Networks). Maintain integrity and assist in normalizing data. Integrate spatial data with other IT Databases.
Everybody knows better information leads to better decisions. GIS is a tool to query, analyze, and map data in support of the decision making process.
VHEA can use GIS to manage, analyze and present information about geographically located features, some examples include:
Housing Availability and Location Veteran Support VA, VFW, DAV, Amvets,
Purple Hearts, and others Service Organizations Not For Profits, Community Liaisons, Outreach Personnel, and Active Change Agents Transportation Medical Facilities Mental/ Physical Education Social Services Family Services
Veterans Housing & Employment Assistance

VHEAs GIS stores information about Supportive Services and other relevant Veteran Centric attribute data as a collection of thematic layers that can be linked together by geography
By creating a shared database, our Veterans can benefit from having information about every service organization available to them on one interactive map. GIS can also be used to deal with other types of information that can be linked to this map.
One of the main benefits of GIS is improved management of resources. A GIS can link data sets together by common locational data, such as addresses, which helps divisions and units share their data.
GIS technology is powerful and affordable. Its strengths lie in its ability to create, access, integrate, and publish large amounts of geographically relevant information. VHEA is in the process of assembling a thorough geodatabase filled with information that will more efficiently serve our Veterans and their families.
