CHAPTER-3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

(3.1.1) Conceptual objective will be derived through findings

To prepare a report after analysis and interpretation of finding of Awareness of employees about their actual compensation and its impact on their motivation at CITI Bank (Gurgaon),by applying various mathematical tools and techniques.

(3.1.2) Factual Analysis objective will be based on facts (results) derived from the findings
To identify the various compensation policies at CITI Bank. To study the impact of compensation on employees motivation. To understand the impact of compensation management on performance level. To understand the compensation management strategies followed in CITI Bank.

To fulfill the object of project I had made the questionnaire and decided to take the sample size of 30 employees of CITI Bank, Gurgaon. In the questionnaire there was 33 questions. Out of them 32 were objective type, Closed Ended questions, rest 1 is Open ended type question. The entire questionnaire was taken keeping in the mind the objective of the project.

3.2 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Methodology is systematically solving the research problem. It has many dimensions and research methods constitute a part of the research methodology.

Thus when we talk about research methodology, we do not only talk of the research methods but also consider the logic behind the methods. We use in context of our research study, so that research results are capable of being evaluated either by researcher himself or by others.

To effectively carry out the research, the following research process has been used, which consists of series of actions or steps.

Research comprises of the following steps:3.2.1 Formulating the research Problem. 3.2.2 Research design & Sample Design. 3.2.3 Analysis of data gathered. 3.2.4 Data analysis comparison. 3.2.5 Graphics and interpretation.

(3.2.1) Formulating the research Problem

This is the first step in which the problem is stated in general way and then ambiguities that is understanding and rephrasing the problem thoroughly and rephrasing the same into meaningful terms from an analysis point of view.

The research problem under the present project was to study the employees are aware of their actual compensation or not and its effect on their motivation towards their work and organization. For this research process was to be formulated and the execution of which would result in the desired data.

(3.2.2) Preparing the Research design.

The function of research design is to provide for the collection of relevant evidences with minimal expenditure of efforts, time and money.

3.2.2.1 Research Design

Type of research In Research Design we use tacts or information already available, and analyse these to make a critical evaluation of the material.

In this project Descriptive Research is used. In this type of research narration of facts and characteristics is done.

Sample design A sample design is a definite plan determined before any data is actually collected for obtaining a sample. Researcher must select a sample design which should be reliable and appropriate for this report.

Observational Design (Collection of Data) Observational Design relates to the conditions under which the observations are to be made. Observational Design is respect to research. There are several ways of collecting the appropriate data, which differ considerably in context of money, time cost and other resources at the disposal of the researcher.

Universe: Universe is referred to population from which the data is/can be collected. The population of the study is only limited to CITI Banks employees in Gurgaon, Delhi. There are many other private banks as well.

Sampling unit: A single section selected to research and gather statistics of the whole.

Sampling technique: These are used to make an inference of the whole by examining a part. There are many sampling techniques and the one used here was Random sampling. In Random Sampling method all members of a group, population or universe have an equal and independent chance of being selected. Sample size: It is the number of observations used for calculating estimates of a given population. Here the sample size was 30.

3.2.2.2 Data can be obtained from two important resources:

Primary Data Secondary Data

Primary data Primary data are the data that are collected afresh and for the first time. Thus happens to be in character. Primary data are collected by the following ways: Observation Interview Schedule Questionnaire

In this project the primary data collection method used was structured questionnaire. Which included 33, both close ended and open ended, questions filled up by 30 respondents.

Secondary Data Secondary data are the data that are already collected from already existing sources. These sources are as follows: Corporate magazine Manuals of various companies Books,Journals, newspapers
