BIBLE REFERENCES:
Joshua 1, 1-2
1
After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun,
Moses' aide: 2 "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready
to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.
Joshua 6, 2-5
2
Then the LORD said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along
with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do
this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams' horns in front of the ark. On
the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.
5
When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud
shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight
in."
Joshua 6, 16-17
16
The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua
commanded the people, "Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! 17 The city and all
that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with
her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent.
Joshua 6, 24-26
24
Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and
the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD's house. 25 But Joshua spared
Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the
men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.
26
At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the LORD is the man
who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho…
Also, one of the most beautiful events of the New Testament occurred on the way between
Jerusalem and Jericho, the same as in the case of the Parable of the Good Samaritan...
The encounter between Jesus and Zacchaeus the sinner, right after Jesus had given sight
to a blind beggar just before entering Jericho:
Right after that, Jesus entered into the city of Jericho and met Zacchaeus:
THE ORIGEN OF THIS SIEGE OF JERICHO COMES FROM POLAND, DURING THE
FIRST VIST OF POPE JOHN PAUL II!
On May 1-8, 1979, our friends in Poland organized a one-week Congress of the
Rosary, at the national shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, in order to obtain the favor that
the Communists would allow the Holy Father to visit his homeland, which at first was
refused by the Polish authorities. On the Thursday of their week of prayer, our Polish
friends learnt that the Holy Father had obtained his visa to go to Poland. They named that
week of prayer the ―Siege of Jericho‖. This week of non-stop prayer was done in front of
the Blessed Sacrament exposed in the Monstrance. Afterwards, many people and
countries have decided to hold ―Sieges of Jericho‖ imitating the Poles, to support the Pope
and to obtain great favors for the world!
One knows that in the Old Testament, the walls of the city of Jericho fell thanks to the
power of God. And as St. Paul said in his letter to the Hebrews: ―By faith the walls of
Jericho fell after being encircled for seven days‖...
We still have many walls to demolish in these times, especially those of indifference,
laziness, and lukewarm hearts and those walls that prevent the Sacred Heart of Jesus to
reign in our homes, to let us have a truthful and deep conversion and to evangelize with a
strong and permanent thrust..
Let´s demolish these walls;
Take your Rosary and start praying!
