The drug addiction is, unfortunately, not uncommon nowadays as it has become some kind of epidemic, which is characterized by symptoms, regularities, and is not a rare phenomenon. Statistics constantly proves it. In fact, the number of drug addicts in the world is astonishing. Although according to the World Drug Report, the world's supply of the two main problem drugs (opiates and cocaine) keeps declining and the worlds cocaine production declined by 12-18 per cent over the period of 2007-2009. The total number of drug users in the world is now estimated at some 185 million people (UNODC, 2010). Most noticeable is that the youth and adolescents are the main risk group of the drugs distribution and use. Everywhere you can see the people who are on drugs or hear how many crimes are committed by the drug addicts in order to get another dose. to improve athletic performance or ease another problem, such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Use doesnt automatically lead to abuse, and there is no specific level at which drug use moves from casual to problematic. It depends on individual. Drug abuse and addiction is less about the amount of substance consumed or the frequency, and has more to do with the consequences of drug use. No matter how often or how little youre consuming, if your drug use is causing problems in your life (at work, school, home, or in your relationships) - you are likely to have a drug abuse or addiction problem. People become addicts, regardless of the social status, social welfare or financial capacity. Everyone can be effected by drugs. We cannot say that people turn to drugs because they have something bad happened in the life, for example, any problems at work or at home. In addition, we see a lot of examples of people from quite wealthy families, who start using drugs. That is the reason that addiction has long stopped to be a disease only for those who are from the disadvantaged backgrounds. For example, some celebrities and popular people turn as drug addicts after getting popularity and lost their life due to their wrong activity. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Elvis are some of the example of the celebrities whoever lost their life due to drugs. It is really unfortunate, all those people lost their life in the middle and young age. Many others died from short-term use of prescription medication via overdose and still many others have flown under the radar and have not have their addictions publicized. Getting into drugs addiction, a person cannot realize that the instincts and feelings are becoming silenced and blunted while the usual norms of life are gradually pushed out of his/her consciousness. Hence the expression that addiction is a disease of the frozen thoughts and feelings. The satisfaction of narcotic substance becomes a necessary for the normal functioning of the body. But drug addiction knows no boundaries and doesnt pick or choose who it will affect. Everyone can become a victim of this affliction.
