Enlarged Rudder & Dorsal Fin

The combination of the Enlarged Rudder and Enlarged Dorsal Fin provides a large margin of safety when an outboard engine failure occurs during a takeoff scenario when the C-130 is operating at high gross weights, and in hot and high or narrow runway conditions. The rudder and trim tab area of 80 sq. ft. is increased to ~99 sq. ft. and the normal dorsal fin side area of ~14 sq. ft. is increased to approximately ~48 sq. ft. There is a weight increase of ~80 lb. for the Enlarged Dorsal Fin, and ~105 lb. for the Enlarged Rudder and counter weight, for a total weight increase of ~185 lbs. SAIs Enlarged Rudder increases the rudder authority and performance of a C-130 aircraft with the T-56-A-15 engines, including the Series 3.5 upgrade. With the combination of the upgraded engines and the NP2000 8bladed propellers, the Enlarged Rudder provides the C-130 aircraft with the rudder authority to be able to manage yaw loads associated with the increased thrust and will also allow the aircraft to operate from the reduced runway lengths and widths of short unimproved runways. The Enlarged Dorsal Fin primarily contributes to the directional stabilization of the aircraft at speeds above 107 knots, and also contributes to the directional stability in the low speed phases of flight. The combination of the Enlarged Rudder, Dorsal Fin and Wing Tip Fuel Tanks increases the controllability of the aircraft operating at 20 knots lower air speed than other C-130 model aircraft can achieve. The Enlarged Dorsal Fin also contributes to the strengthening of the aft fuselage of the C-130 aircraft, especially when the aft cargo door is open. The Enlarged Dorsal Fin is designed to house the ASB Avionics Shunt or Notched HF Antennas. Enlarged Rudder and Dorsal Fin Features 22% increase in directional stability 29% increase in directional control 24% increase in rudder cord Increased rudder authority Directional stability from the dorsal fin Decreased Vmca and Vmcg
