Makenzie Meggers 8th hour December 11, 2013 Ms.

Wolf On September 11, 2001, terrorist hijacked four U.S. airlines and carried out deadly attacks, destroying The World Trade Center. This was the most tragic day in American history. The four planes were bound for California. Instead they changed direction, two went for The World Trade Center, one went for the Pentagon, and the other one went down in a field. At 8:46am American Airlines flight 11 from Boston with 92 aboard, traveling at a speed of 470 miles per hour strikes the north tower. When the first plane hit it ignite the top floors with fire, killing everyone in the higher floors. The impact left a gaping burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110 story skyscraper. No one from the 91st floor or up survived, but the majority of the people below the crash zone were able to escape safety. At least 100 people in the upper floors, trapped by fire and smoke jump to their deaths. Dust clouds billowed for blocks, killing many people as they were running for their lives. There were body parts all over the streets from people jumping. At 10:28 the north tower goes straight down to the ground. At 9:03 American Airlines flight 175 with 65 aboard, traveling at the speed of 590 miles an hour slams the south tower. The second plane came 18 minutes after the first one. Flight 175 smashed into the corner of the south tower near the 60th floor. The collision caused a huge explosion and showered burning debris all over the streets below. Phone lines were jammed with over 230 million phone calls Hundreds of firefighters were trapped inside the towers, finally at 7:45pm a police department announces that 78 officers are missing and about 200 firefighters are dead. The South tower lasts only 56 minutes before it collapses to the ground.

Just a little while before the south tower collapses, flight 77 with 64 aboard crashes into the Pentagon. 126 people were killed in the pentagon, but many survived. The plane hit the west side of the Pentagon, and was loaded with 10,000 gallons of fuel. After about 30 minutes the damaged area of the Pentagon finally collapsed. The plane hit the ground right outside the Pentagon, exploding and disappearing into the building. Phone lines were jammed with over 230 million phone calls. Hundreds of people laid down their lives in effort to save others, and more than 400 firefighters and police officers were killed. The last plane which was flight 93 had been delayed and by then the passengers had heard the news about the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The passengers started using fire extinguishers on the hijackers that took over the plane. As the plane had taken off the passengers tried to take over the plane, but unfortunately that failed. Flight 93 went twirling to the ground at 500 miles an hour, and there were no survivors. The plane went down in a field out in Pennsylvania. There were 19 Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. They smuggled box cutters, knives and other weapons through security at three east coast airports. A flight attendant of plane 11 made a phone call to American Airlines saying the plane has been hijacked. More than 5,000 innocent people were victims of the war on that day. The terrorist that attacked the World Trade Center killed over 3,000 people and about 200 people in elevators. Two of the plane hijackers were trained in the U.S., and had lived in the United States for almost a year. September 11, 2001 was one of the most devastating days in history, and nobody will ever forget this day. Thousands thought it would be just a normal day of work but little did they know it would be the scariest day of their life and the last day they would ever get to live such a

wonderful life. There are so many people in this world that take life for granted and they never know when their time on earth will be done with and they will regret the chances they never took.
