PLATFORM SCREEN DOOR SYSTEM FOR TAIPEI MAIN STATION AND ZHONGXIAO FUXING STATION CUSTOMER
Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Taiwan
GENERAL
Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) was awarded a contract in November 2005 to provide a Platform Screen Door (PSD) system for a pilot retrofit project by Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) in Taipei, Taiwan. The project was successfully completed in November 2006. Under the contract, ST Electronics supplied, installed and commissioned the half height PSD system for three existing underground stations, namely Taipei Main Station (Danshui and Nangang Line) and ZhongXiao FuXing Station (Nangang Line). The contract also includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of train borne wireless interface units in the existing 64 trains to be interfaced with the new PSD system, station wireless interface unit, the signaling interface circuit to interface with existing signaling system and monitoring of the PSD system at Signaling Equipment Room (SER), Operation Control Centre (OCC) and Passenger Agent Office (PAO). All installation works were carried out during non-revenue hours in order to avoid disruption to normal metro operations.
Taipei Main Station (Danshui Line) Each set of ASD is equipped with: Dual-processor based Door Control Unit (DCU) with software that is designed to meet Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL 2). State-of-the-art DC motor requiring no maintenance. Specially designed linear bearing system to provide high efficiency and smooth door operation. Emergency Release Mechanism (ERM) that allows the doors to be manually opened from trackside in an emergency.
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
The PSD system is designed to cater to both straight and curve platforms. The installed PSD is 1.45m high and features a modular design in aluminium alloy. It is also designed to aesthetically blend with the existing station architecture. The PSD system is designed and configured for 6-car train operation. For each platform, the PSD system consists of 24 sets of Automatic Sliding Doors (ASD), 23 Emergency Escape Doors (EED) and Fixed Screens (FIX) for the full platform length of approximately 141m.

EEDs were provided to allow for easy passenger evacuation from trains. These pivot-type EDDs swing-out and have monitoring and locking devices. They are fitted with panic bars to allow the doors to be manually opened from trackside in an emergency. The EEDs can also be opened with a service key by station staff. At each platform end return, a Platform End Door (PED) similarly designed as the EED is installed. The design architecture of the PSD control system provides for normal door operation to be processed by hardware based safety logic, with vital circuits designed to fail-safe principle. This means that any single fault will not lead to an unsafe condition for the system. All electrical and data signal interfaces are centralised at the PSD Controller located in the headwall of the platform providing key features such as: High performance Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Real-time monitoring of system status via CANBUS interface
