CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1

Introduction

Project Implementation semester 6 is an obligation for all Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah students to complete their studies at diploma level. Final year project aims is to apply all the knowledge that we learn in the past semester during classes and the knowledge that we learn in industrial training. Final year project is done in semester 5 and 6. All the projects preparation is done during semester 5 and the making of the project is done in semester 6.

Furthermore, the final year project is to improve the student knowledge on how to apply it in real world situations. The students creative and critical thinking is put up to the task when students must improve or create a new product to help or improve society daily life. Moreover, this final project is also to improve the student hands on experience and their practical knowledge. Robot in objective science is something that is designed / created and function to replace or facilitate the daily work of man, especially for work risky and timeconsuming. For example of risky is, very easy to say, robots war are needed in the military field to fight with the opposite team without humans help for the fighting process, as bomb detector and as bomb planner.

Robot are mainly used in military field which help to attack the opposite team without any endanger the lives of soldiers. The robot war also used in the competition are custom built remote-controlled vehicles, mostly wheeled. Robotic War is a new sport where robots fight each other in an arena. The aim is to immobilize your opposition using tactics and your own weaponry. After qualifying to be in a series, robots are drawn against each other. They go into the arena and fight each other using weapons and tactics such as pushing your opponent into a house robot or arena hazard. Once one of the robots is dead or impossible to move anywhere then the robots left standing go through to the next round. Robot Wars pits two robots (generally) against each other in an arena.

Problems Statement

This autonomous robot will participate in part of (MUROC) robot war one. Before start to design, we had read through all the rules of (MUROC) 2013 and robot specification of robot war.

The first problem that we found is that the dimensions of robot war cannot exceed 800mm (long) x 800mm (wide) x 500mm (height) and minimum dimension is 300mm (long) x 300mm (wide) x 300mm (height).

The second problem that we found is, how to build a robot war that can flip when receive the signal from the controller. We found that the flipper mechanism in our robot war is very important to flip the opposite robot because in the game we have to make the opposite robot immobilize.

The third problem that we found is, how to build robot war that can move in four directional. We found that the moving in four directional is very important to robot war because when the wars start it can escape when the opponent robot try to attack .

Objectives

Our objective that we identified to success our project is:

I. II. III.

To design the robot flip up the opposite robot war. To design a robot which is small , light, and compact. To design the robot can move in four directional.

1.4

Project Scope

From the research and the designing process that we have done, there are a few limitations that we are expected that might exist in the robot war that we are going to build. The limitations that we expect are as below:

I.

The robot war must be able to immobilize the opposite robot war using the own weaponry system which is called flipper system and it able to flip up the opposite robot war.

II.

To design the robot war which is cannot exceed 800mm (long) x 800mm (wide) x 800mm (height) and minimum dimension is 300mm (long) x 300mm (wide) x 300mm (height).

III.

The robot war can move in four directional which forward, backward, rightward and leftward.
