In order to setup the focus group as researchers, first, there was reading of different peer reviewed articles about social media to help brainstorm several ideas on questions we could ask in our focus group. After that, together as a group, we chose the questions we felt that were the best to study. We then submitted several questions along with our meta question to be approved by BYU-I, which it was. In return BYU-I sent us several randomly selected phone numbers of students that we could invite to our focus group. We ended up calling and e-mailing about a hundred people and let them know when and where the focus group would be. Before the focus group started we brought pizza and drinks for the people attending in order to help get them there. We also set up a camera in the room so we could record what was discussed in order to look at the information at a later time. We then let the participants know that they could leave at any time or pass on answering any questions if they felt uncomfortable with it. Our focus group leader then proceeded to ask the people from the focus group several questions and allowed the participants to converse. Every time the conversation died down the focus group leader would ask another question in order to keep the participants actively participating. After the focus group was finished, the final step we took in our study was to have one of our group members transcribe what was said from the video recording so we were able to look over the context in a written format.

Conclusion

Social media can be used in several positive ways, but it can also be used as a crutch in a negative way. Because social media makes things more open, it magnifies your interactions more than it changes them. And social media has its own lingo that you have to learn. Social media is another way to communicate and connect with people in relationships but can be used as a cop out when it comes to hard face to face interactions. However, as a society we have adapted to have social media within all aspects of our lives like business, education, advertising, shopping, research and news along with just waiting to stay connected to people. Although social media is an avenue of communication that allows people to connect easier than ever before, there is still a desire for real contact with others rather than virtual visits. Social media generally tends to positively affect relationships, but there is no replacement for face-to-face conversation. Social media is a popular topic and everyone has an opinion on what role social media should play in a relationship.
