Exploring Space ITAR Reform The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which govern transfers of space technologies to foreign persons, have been widely criticized as counter-productive. Phil Mills NewSpace Models Phil Mills builds scale models to order of Spacecraft and Launch Vehicles. Each model is individually scratch built to order in Saudi Arabia where Phil lives and works. All materials for the models are brought in to Saudi from the UK as modelling materials are not available in the Kingdom. To produce the models Phil draws his own plans gathering information from the internet. The models are made to represent how the actual vehicles do or will appear in space. If new information appears or a configuration changes in the course of vehicle development, later models will represent this. As a consequence models built at a certain time will be unique representations done at that time. Each model comes with a display stand. Scope 101 Scope 101 is a telescope education event which will take place this Fall in three cities: Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego. High school students from around Southern California will learn how telescopes work, how to aim a telescope, and then teach younger children how to operate a telescope. Scope 101 is a project of the Space Frontier Foundation and managed by long-time space education veteran and SEDS alum John Wright.

Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) SEDS is the world's largest international student run pro space organization. Virginia Space Flight Academy Virginia Space Flight Academy offers weeklong residential summer camps for students ages eleven to fifteen years old. Zero Gravity Corporation Zero Gravity Corporation is a privately held space entertainment company whose mission is to make the excitement and adventure of space accessible to the public. ZERO-G is based in Las Vegas and Florida and is the first and only FAA-approved provider of commercial weightless flight to the general public. The experience offered by Zero-G is the only commercial opportunity on Earth for individuals to experience true "weightlessness" without going to space. Mr. Ali has 12 years of experience in the Aerospace and High Tech markets. He has been a founding member of numerous technology and internet startups, including SnowSports Interactive, LocalVision (digital media advertising), bne1.com (a consumer privacy software company), and Inferscape (a predictive modeling company using the latest in artificial intelligence software). He is currently also President of the American Society of Sydney. Previously, Mr. Ali was Manager of KPMG Space Consulting in Washington, D.C., and worked on the strategic planning and financing of numerous commercial and defence satellite ventures, and technology commercialisation projects for the Federal government (ISS and Sandia Labs) and university laboratories. He was the Group Manager of Risk Operations Strategy for Capital One, one of the leading credit card issuers in the United States. He was a Director of a publicly traded telecommunications firm, and has served on the Board of Directors of the California Space Authority, the Space Frontier Foundation, and the International Business Association of the Greater Los Angeles World Trade Centre Association.
Eric Anderson
Born in 1974 in Denver, Colo., Mr. Eric Anderson, a leading astropreneur (as coined by Wired magazine), is currently the president and CEO of Space Adventures, Ltd. He is an outspoken advocate of commercial space transportation, private space exploration, and space tourism. Involved since its inception, he co-founded Space Adventures in 1997 with several former astronauts and leading visionaries from the aerospace, adventure travel, and entertainment industries. Mr. Anderson's vision is to open the space frontier to everyone. It is his hope that through the development of the sub-orbital spaceflight program he helped engineer and the latest mission to take private explorers to the International Space Station, Space-Adventures 1, the company can benefit not only private individuals interested in space travel, but also the international space program as a whole. He shares in the belief that space exploration is vital to human progress and by opening the space frontier to private men and women from around the world, we can greatly enhance technological development and cultural understanding. Previously, Mr. Anderson was the executive vice president and co-founder of Starport.com, an astronaut-endorsed space education and entertainment web site (Starport.com was sold to SPACE.com in June 2000). Mr. Anderson also worked as a business development lead for Analytical Graphics, a $30 million aerospace software firm. In addition, he held a research position with NASA. Mr. Anderson has authored several technical papers and articles, on topics ranging from space tourism to infrared astronomy, from launch vehicle analysis to advanced space propulsion, from space sensor design to business and economic evaluations of various space-related ventures. He is also a guest speaker and lecturer on various topics in the aviation and aerospace industry. Mr. Anderson graduated magna cum laude from the University of Virginia, with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, and was selected by USA Today as one of the nation's Top 40 graduating seniors.

Brent Barbee

Mr. Brent William Barbee, M.S.E. is an Aerospace Engineer with Emergent Space Technologies, Inc., headquartered in Greenbelt, MD. Mr. Barbee specialized in spacecraft dynamics, celestial mechanics, and spacecraft mission design at The University of Texas at Austin, and his Master's Thesis provided detailed plans for systems to deflect hazardous Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) (asteroids and comets). Mr. Barbee participated by invitation in the NASA NEO Workshop in Vail, CO in 2006 that supported the creation of the report delivered to Congress by NASA regarding available options for deflecting hazardous NEOs. Mr. Barbee has also been an invited speaker on the topic of protecting Earth from NEOs at the 2007 Planetary Defense Conference, at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and at the 2007 Aerospace Technology Working Group meeting. Mr. Barbee is currently supporting the TRL 6 hardware-in-the-loop testing of the Inter-spacecraft Ranging and Alarm System (IRAS) for the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission at the NASA GSFC Formation Flying Testbed (FFTB). He also previously performed key work in the FFTB leading to a successful GSFC TRL4 demonstration of precision formation flying, contributed to the design, development, and testing of a hardware Path Emulator for Radio Frequency Signals (PERFS), wrote the crosslink environment simulation software to drive the PERFS, and developed methods for acquiring truth metrology during a series of Relative Navigation Sensor (RNS) tests in support of Servicing Mission 4 (SM4) to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Additionally, Mr. Barbee has developed safe proximity operations techniques for an AFRL nanosatellite program, developed innovative passively safe and fuel-efficient rendezvous techniques and trajectories for a Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) team, assisted in the development and analysis of optical navigation techniques for Lunar missions, and performed exotic trajectory design utilizing Lunar gravity assists. Prior to joining Emergent, Mr. Barbee worked on distributed computing for data processing at The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories and worked on high-fideli simulation and modeling for the International Space Station (ISS) and visiting vehicles at NASA JSC. In addition to his duties at Emergent, Mr. Barbee teaches the graduate Astrodynamics class in the Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Barbee's areas of expertise and research interests include deflecting hazardous asteroids and comets, spacecraft mission design, spacecraft rendezvous and proximity operations, spacecraft trajectory design, spacecraft formation flying, and spacecraft simulation and modeling.
David Beaver
David Beaver studied nuclear engineering and physics at The University of Virginia and the psychology and sociology of perception and the philosophy of science at The University of Richmond. In addition to Mindspace Multimedia Inc. David also founded The World Space Center, a not- for-profit working group that produced the First Overview Effect Conference, held in Arlington Virginia, on July 18th 2007. David holds three U.S. and International patents for the invention of The Magic Stage, a virtual reality theater technology. He has written and lectured on the cognitive science of the perception of media images and its relationship to design, perception, art, film, virtual reality and other fields in seminars at six major graduate schools, including recent ones at the Duke University Center for Cognitive Neuroscience. He has written three yet-to-be published books on the cognitive science of stage magic and a fourth, Applied Magic, is in process. Today David writes, researches, lectures, designs and consults on his Projection Theory of Media Images and its many applications.
Michael Beavin
Michael Beavin joined the Office of Space Commercialization at NOAA in May 2006 as a Senior Program Analyst. Mike came to the Office of Space Commercialization from the Satellite Industry Association (SIA) where he was the Director of Government Affairs and focused on the associations legislative and policy issues within Congress and the Administration. Before working at SIA, Mike worked for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) where he was the Director of Government Relations and Public Policy. Mike also served on the majority staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics. In this position he was responsible for overseeing the committees authorization of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration fiscal year budget and the FAA Research, Engineering, and Development budget.

Brad R. Blair

Brad is currently a consultant in the areas of mining technology, space resources and space commercialization. Recent consulting customers have included Raytheon, NASA, DigitalSpace and SysRAND Corporation. He holds degrees in geology, mining engineering and mineral economics, and has 5 years of professional experience in mining engineering and mineral exploration. He has published over 25 papers on topics related to engineering and economic aspects of planetary in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) since 1992. During the summer of 1999, Brad was a visiting professional at the NASA/JSC Exploration Office, where he learned and practiced cost estimation in support of the combo lander human Mars design reference mission. From 2002-2005, he and a small team at CSM conducted full-time research for NASA on topics related to ISRU. Studies have included Systems engineering for mining propellants on the Moon and Mars; Lunar polar data analysis; Planetary excavator design and prototype development; NASA technology roadmapping; And, ISRU system design, costing and economic/commercial modeling.
Elaine Bloom
Elaine Bloom is the PR Director for SpaceContest.Org, which is running the 2008 SpaceVidVision Contest along with the Space Frontier Foundation. She is a freelance PR writer, book editor and professional organizer based in Maplewood, NJ. Her strong publishing background includes years working for New York book publishers and in the special-interest newspaper field. An avid science fiction fan and Worldcon attendee, Elaine's interest in space extends back to her childhood dream of being the first astronaut to go to Mars.
Dave Brody
Dave Brody is Executive Producer and Director of Media for IMAGINOVA Corporation, whose divisions include LiveScience.com, Space.com, Aviation.com, Orion Telescopes, SPACE NEWS and Starry Night software. Brody produces, writes and directs original video and multimedia for the IMAGINOVA brands. Dave also works the other side of the camera: He's proselytized and pronounce-ticated about space on NBC's Today Show; CNBC's Business Nation and Morning Call show; Fox News television, BBC Worldwide News; and almost inexplicably on SIRIUS' satellite radio's Howard Stern Show Brody writes for LiveScience.com, SPACE.com, SPACE NEWS and Ad Astra magazine. He conducts public astronomy presentations using Starry Night software and Orion Telescopes. Prior to IMAGINOVA, Brody was Supervising Producer Original Programs for USA Networks/SCI FI Channel where he co-created and produced science, technology and entertainment series and specials; most particularly 192 episodes of the weekly half-hour INSIDE SPACE program. Dave is Space Frontier Foundation Advisor and Advocate. He still harbors the old dream of retiring to a variable gravity condo made of non-terrestrial material at a LaGrange Libration point.
Keith Cowing
Keith Cowing is trained as a biologist (M.A. and B.A. degrees) and has a multidisciplinar background with experience and expertise that ranges from space shuttle and space station payload integration and biomedical peer review to freelance writing and website authoring. Keith is editor and webmaster of the somewhat notorious NASA Watch, an online publication devoted to the free and uncensored exchange of information on space policy and NASA operations. This website is read regularly within NASA, Congress, and the global space community. Keith is also editor of SpaceRef. com an online space news and reference resource and OnOrbit.com a new, space-oriented social website Keith donated his time to serve as an organizer and later, a the proceedings co-editor, for the NASA Administrator's Symposium "Risk and Exploration: Earth, Sea, and the Stars" which was held at the Naval Postgraduate School in September 2004. Keith was co-chair with Leroy Chiao of a successor to this event, "Risk and Exploration: Eart As A Classroom", which was held at Louisiana State University in October 2007. Keith has been involved with the Haughton-Mars Project (HMP) since the mid 1990's. Keith and his SpaceRef business partner Marc Boucher donated an experimental greenhouse which they constructed on Devon Island in the Summer of 2002. Keith returned to Devon Island for another month in 2003. Keith visited Devon Island again in July in 2007 as part of a Mars Institute/ Challenger Center education and outreach activity. Keith is a Fellow (National) of The Explorers Club and was a member of a flag expedition to Devon Island (also in 2007). He is also an advisor to the Students for the Exploration and Settlement of Space (SEDS) and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Challenger Center for Space Science Education.
Ken Davidian
Ken Davidian currently works for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD) and the Innovative Partnerships Program Office at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Within ESMD, Mr. Davidian is charged with leading ESMD's space commercial development strategy efforts for the benefit of the Vision for Space Exploration, the Global Exploration Strategy, and NASA. Mr. Davidian is also the program manager of Centennial Challenges, NASA's prize program modeled on past and ongoing prize competitions. Centennial Challenges was established to stimulate technology developments from private industry, universities, and individual innovators that support of the Vision for Space Exploration and ongoing NASA programs.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Davidian served as Director of Operations for the X PRIZE Foundation. Responsibilities in this position included managing the registration process, team information and relations, and many aspects of flight attempt validation, judging, and event coordination. In addition to his prize-related work experience, Mr. Davidian has worked for Paragon Space Development Corp. as Program Manager and also as Director of Operations consulting to Cargo Lifter Development. Finally, Mr. Davidian spent the first 18 years of his career working for NASA Glenn Research Center in the area of analytical and experimental research on the performance of liquid rocket engines. For a three-year period, NASA Glenn loaned Mr. Davidian to work at the International Space University as the Assistant Director of Operations for the 1997-1999 Summer Session Programs.

Emilie Drobnes
Emilie Drobnes is the Education and Public Outreach Lead (EPO) for the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. As EPO lead for SDO, Emilie has developed and implemented a variety of programs nationwide aimed at changing people's perceptions and attitudes towards science. Examples include the NASA Family Science Night program that strives to change the way students and their families participate in science, the Did You Know campaign that aims to take science to the public through unexpected locations, and AstroZone and Exploration Station that provide the opportunity for scientists to interact with the general public in various cities around the country and make an impact wherever professional meetings are held. Emilie is highly involved with the American Astronomical Society (AAS), AAS Solar Physics Division

(SPD), Association for Astronomy Education (AAE), American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the National Science Teacher's Association (NSTA). As a member of the SPD, Emilie spearheaded the effort to establish an EPO committee for the division for which she chair. She is an ex-officio member of the AAS Astronomy Education Board and is helping coordinate efforts between the AAS ,SPD, and AGU to implement new programs for local educators and families. Emilie is also Vice-President of the AAE and helps organize sessions at NSTA conferences dedicated to sharing K-12 astronomy activities that exemplify quality and pedagogical best practices. Emilie received her undergraduate degree in International Studies in 1999 from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and received her Masters Degree in Contemporary European Politics in 2000 from the University of Paris III - La Sorbonne. Emilie was one of 50 students chosen yearly worldwide to participate in the Euromasters program.
Paul Eckert, Ph.D.

Dr. Paul Eckert holds the position of International & Commercial Strategist within the Space Exploration division of The Boeing Company. In this role, Dr. Eckert develops strategies to strengthen global business relationships and explore new commercial markets. He serves as Coordinator of the international Space Investment Summit Coalition, which presents events linking investors and entrepreneurs in order to encourage investment in entrepreneurial innovation. Within the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Eckert chairs the Emerging Markets Working Group of the Space Enterprise Council. He also chairs the Entrepreneurship and Investment Technical Committee of the International Astronautical Federation and acts as commercial coordinator for the Lunar Exploration Analysis Group. Having joined The Boeing Company in 2003, Dr. Eckert's prior roles have involved space exploration planning, infrastructure design, Earth observation, space science, government relations, and communications. Previously, within the U.S. Department of Commerce, he helped promote the growth of the commercial space industry, as part of the Office of Space Commercialization. Earlier, in the NASA Office of Legislative Affairs, Dr. Eckert coordinated liaison with the U.S. Congress involving space and aeronautics research, information technology, systems engineering, and technology transfer to industry. Prior to this, he served as science and technology advisor to U.S. Senator John Breaux, a key member of the Senate Commerce Committee, with jurisdiction over NASA. Dr. Eckert holds a bachelor's degree with high honors from Harvard University and a doctoral degree from Michigan State University.
Jeff Feige
Jeff Feige is currently CEO of Orbital Outfitters, a company which was started to provide safe, affordable, and stylish space and pressure suits for the first wave of normal people intent upon entering space. Prior to his work with Orbital Outfitters he worked as a strategy and policy consultant at Polispace, a political consulting firm dedicated to helping space entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs succeed at the nexus of space business, technology, and public affairs. Before joining PoliSpace, Feige was the Assistant to the Executive Director of the Aerospace States Association (ASA), an organization representing the U.S. States on matters relating to Aerospace policy. Prior to that, he worked as a policy analyst for the National Coalition for Spaceport States (NCSS), an organization founded to advance the interests of those states which operate or were intent upon one day operating spaceports. In the past he has managed both the Return to the Moon conference and the Newspace conference for the Space Frontier Foundation and was also a board member of that organization. He holds a BS from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, and is an avid SCUBA diver, sailor, and private pilot.
LtCol. Peter Garretson

Peter Garretson is a futurist, space advocate, and transformational strategist. A former Service Academy Research Associate to Los Alamos and Service Chief's Intern at DARPA, he is currently serving as the Chief of Future Science and Technology Exploration for Headquarters Air Force. Peter has been an influential champion in the arenas of Space Development, Human Systems Integration/Augmentation, and Energy Transformation; his agenda setting is reflected in the topic selections by a number of academic institutions and think tanks in the national security community. He is a published author on such future concepts as Planetary Defense, Space Solar Power, Just-inTime-Logistics, and Space Grand Strategy. An often requested speaker, he is the author of numerous white papers, on topics as diverse as Investment Strategies in High Risk/High Return Technologies, Human Factors/Human Systems Integration, Wargame Design, Augmented/Mixed Reality/Virtual Environments and Gaming Technology, Nurturing our National Tech Base, and Lunar Development. Peter holds leadership positions in the Space Frontier Foundation, Space Development Steering Committee, National Space Society, and Lifeboat Foundation; actively participates on the DoD Human Factors Engineering Technical Advisory Group, AIAA Space Colonization and Space Resources committees, ATWG, and is a recent honorary member of SIGMA, a think tank of science fiction authors. He recently won the NSS Space Pioneer award for his work leading the National Security Space Office's innovative report on Space-Based Solar Power. Robert Godwin
Robert was born in England in 1958. Educated at St Oswalds College in Shropshire he studied mathematics and physics. In 1975 Robert attended a Led Zeppelin concert appearance in London which began a life-long obsession with the band and their music. That same year he briefly worked as a member of the road crew for the rock band Scorpions. He moved to Canada in 1978 and took over the operational management of a chain of eleven English pubs. In 1981 he would establish the most popular night club in Canada, The Orient Express. In 1982 Robert co-produced an outdoor concert in Canada which attracted over 20,000 people. Later that year Robert was asked to fill a vacancy at Toronto's George Brown College which he did under contract for a year-teaching management. In 1983 he moved into music management. Robert helped some of the artists who played at his club to get worldwide recording contracts. Moving from management into production, Robert assisted in the recording of several popular albums and worked at Musicland Studios in Munich Germany, Metalworks in Toronto, as well as Sunset Sound and United Western in Los Angeles. In 1984 Robert turned his love of Led Zeppelin into the first of a long string of books about the band. He quickly established a reputation as one of the world's leading experts on the subject. He followed this success with books on other artists which interested him, including the archetypal British space-rock group Hawkwind. This led to a continuing friendship and business relationship with Hawkwind and their science-fiction guru, world-famous author, Michael Moorcock. In 1987 Robert opened his own record label, Griffin Music, which by 1992 would be voted best independent label in America by several major US newspapers. Over the next few years Robert would release many classic rock acts' back-catalogs through Griffin, notably, the BBC In Concert series, Anderson - Bruford - Wakeman and Howe, Olivia Newton-John, Hawkwind, Nazareth, David Bowie, and many other household names. By 1995 Robert sold his interest in Griffin Music and briefly dabbled in the merchandising business where he acquired a coveted license from Lucasfilm to manufacture Star Wars memorabilia. Later that year he incorporated his private publishing company, Collector's Guide Publishing, and went into full-time publishing. Building on the success of his Led Zeppelin books Robert began to sign up authors and subsequently published and edited dozens of books on many aspects of pop culture including music, collectibles and movies. These books have won accolades from around the world and have sold in at least 80 countries. In 1998 Robert was invited by his brother, Richard, to attend a celebration in honor of the crew of Apollo 7. During that event Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin asked Robert to publish a book to honor his fellow astronauts and to commemorate man's first voyage to the moon. Working with advice from his friend, noted space-author, Andrew Chaikin he launched a space book imprint. In partnership with his brother, Robert has subsequently worked with almost every surviving Apollo astronaut on his acclaimed book series "The NASA Mission Reports". Contributors to Robert's space series include Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Tom Hanks, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, David Brin, Ron Howard, Senator Harrison Schmitt, Eugene Cernan, Wally Schirra, Dave Scott, Walt Cunningham, Dr Marc Garneau, Eileen Collins, Bonnie Dunbar and many more astronauts and space scientists. Robert created the first ever Virtual-Reality digital panoramas from the Apollo lunar photography and his acclaimed film Apollo 11 - Moonwalk was the first time that the mission of Apollo 11 was shown from multiple camera angles simultaneously. Robert has appeared on dozens of radio and television programs in Canada, the USA and England as an expert on, not only music, but also space exploration. His books have been discussed on CNN, the CBC, the BBC and CBS 60 Minutes. Today, CG Publishing, through its imprint Apogee Books, is the world's number one publisher of Space books; creating an average of one new space book a month. CG Publishing has garnered contracts to document aspects of space history from both NASA and the Russian space corporation Energia. Robert works regularly with many of the world's leading space advocacy groups including The National Space Society, The Space Frontier Foundation, The Mars Society, The X Prize Foundation, The British Interplanetary Society, The Planetary Society, Space Day and many more. Through revenues generated from the sale of their books Robert and Richard have donated funds to an asteroid impact research project called The Watch, which led to Apogee Books sponsoring a U.S. Senate round-table on the subject of catastrophic impacts. The round-table raised political awareness on the subject and assisted in more long-term funding for asteroid research. In 2008 Robert continues to work closely with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and spends his time editing and writing. Never far from his love for music, he occasionally writes for music magazines while CG Publishing continues to publish award winning music books, including a new revised edition of Robert's Led Zeppelin - The Press Reports. In November of 2007 the IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature honored Robert and his brother Richard by naming a main belt asteroid "4252 Godwin". Robert is currently writing a book on the crossover between popular culture and space exploration. Robert is an advocate of the Space Frontier Foundation. Marshall L. Heard

Mr. Heard joined the Florida Aerospace Alliance in 1999 after a 34-year career with the Boeing Company. Mr. Heard served as both Vice Chairman of the Alliance and Executive Director prior to becoming Chairman. While with Boeing, Heard divided his efforts between engineering, marketing/business development, and project management. As a Vice President he directed the Tandem Rotors Programs (CH-46 and CH-47), the Comanche Program (RAH-66), and served as the Deputy Program manager of the V-22 Joint Program Office. He was also Vice President of marketing/business development for Boeing's passenger, cargo, and tanker military aircraft programs and was Boeing Aerospace's senior executive in the Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Heard has served on numerous Cabinet level panels and commissions (including the Defense Science Board and the Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee). He has been a frequent witness before both the U.S. Congress and foreign legislative bodies on the subjects of strategic deterrence, battlefield mobility, and the role of technology in national defense policy. In addition to his role with the Florida Aviation Aerospace Alliance he also serves on the boards of Enterprise Florida, Inc., the Florida Aerospace Technician Advisory Council, the National Aerospace Technical Advisory Committee and the Florida Defense Alliance. He has a keen interest in promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and serves on the Florida Coalition for the Improvement of Math and Science (CIMS) and is an Executive Committee member of the Aerospace Resources Center (ARC), the state's first BANNER center. Mr. Heard has an active aerospace related consulting practice specializing in business development and the integration of large scale systems. A 1960 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mr. Heard also holds advanced degrees in engineering and business management from the University of Illinois and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow in residence at MIT in 1975 and 1976. Heard is married to Annette Snow McAllister of Salt Lake City. They reside on Merritt Island, Florida.
Alex Howerton
Alex Howerton is a Business Development Consultant with American Aerospace Advisors Inc. Alex has been researching the commercial space industry for over 16 years. He started publishing "Space Available: The Space Investors Report" in 1992, and was its publisher, editor and principal author until 1995, when it was acquired by Countdown Magazine. He has written two books on space development. "Free Space: Real Alternatives for Reaching Outer Space" (Loompanics, 1995) is an assessment of the then current private space initiatives. "Project Avalon" (Space Available Press, 1998) is a science fiction novel exploring the ramifications of private space development and the potential consequences to society of not moving swiftly enough to create a spacefaring civilization. He was formerly a Business Development Manager of Space Training at NASTAR Center.
Richard Humphrey
Richard Humphrey is serial entrepreneurial and investor with extensive experience in product design, outsourcing, and business development. He was named by Inc. magazine to the 2003 Inc 500 list as CEO of one of the fastest growing private companies in America for growing his company by over 1,300%. In 2004, OC Business Journal recognized him for his Excellence in Entrepreneurism and OC Metro profiled him as a Young Business Star. In 2005, Business Week featured him in its Small Biz issue on managing growing pains. In 2004 he was honored as a finalist for Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In this board position, Richard organizes difficult to access speakers and venues to bring valuable and relevant learning experiences to the EO members whose companies collectively represent more than $1.2B in sales. Richard is the former President of the Newport Jaycees, the premier leadership training organization for young people which offers leadership training through community service. While President in 1997, the chapter grew by more than 200% and participated in numerous community projects and fund raisers and continues to thrive today. Born in Kansas City, MO, Richard has an M.B.A. in Finance and International business from the University of Missouri Bloch School of Business. Jack Kennedy
Jack was the primary political and legal organizer for the Virginia Spaceflight Liability and Immunity Act passed by the Virginia General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Tim Kaine in the spring of 2007. The first of its kind in the nation, the new law is designed to boost the utilization of the FAA/AST licensed commercial Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport [MARS] by mitigating insurance costs. The legislation enjoyed the active support of the Personal Spaceflight Federation, the Space Frontier Foundation, and the National Space Society among others. In 2008, Jack successfully organized passage of a favorable 'ZeroG, ZeroTax' regime in Virginia state law for commercial space launch firms to locate in Virginia and utilize launch facilities at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport. In addition, Jack is a founding director of the V-PRIZE Foundation, Inc. with the goal of challlenging members of the commercial space industry to compete to become the first in history to create a exo-atmospheric vehicle capable of launching from Virginia and land in Europe in an hour or so.
Jeff Krukin Jeff Krukin's space career began with boyhood evenings in the back yard gazing at the Moon, and led
to IBM Systems Engineer, Chairman of ProSpace, Executive Director of the Space Frontier Foundation, and most recently a NewSpace Business Development practice. Jeff has fought the front-line battles to open the space frontier. Jeff combined his passions for technology and space as an IBM Systems Engineer at NASA's Johnson Space Center. During a 23-year Information Technology career that also included Attachmate Corp. and independent consulting, he specialized in strategic business and technology planning and implementation, along with technical sales, marketing, and communication. Jeff left the IT field in 2004 to create a different space career. From January 2005 through December 2007, Jeff was Executive Director of the Space Frontier Foundation, the most prominent commercial space (NewSpace) advocacy organization. Overlapping this period, beginning in 2004 and continuing today, he has engaged in various space consulting projects. The largest of these was the North Carolina Aerospace Economy Project that he initiated in 2004, and he was awarded two grants to educate political, business, and economic development leaders about the emerging NewSpace industry and its potential contributions to the state's economic development. He was the lead author of The Aero/Space Economy in North Carolina: A Preliminary Assessment of Current Performance and Future Prospects, and a key contributor to North Carolina's Strategic Plan for Workforce Development in the Aviation and Aerospace Industries. Jeff is frequent conference speaker across the United States and Europe, and in Canada, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He has been interviewed by newspapers, magazines, radio, and television from Los Angeles to Houston to West Palm Beach, as well as in Europe and Asia. Alan Ladwig is currently serving as the Manager of Space Systems for Whitney, Bradley and Brown, Inc. (WBB Consulting). In this capacity he is responsible for developing a new business unit dedicated to technical and consulting services for the civil and commercial space sectors. Prior to joining WBB Alan was the Manager of NASA and Civil Space Programs for the Integrated Systems Sector at Northrop Grumman where he directed marketing and sales activities in pursuit of contracts for NASA human space flight programs. Ladwig served as the Chief Operating Officer for the ZERO Gravity Corporation and was the Assistant to the Chairman and Vice President for Washington Operations of Space.com. Alan served at NASA Headquarters both as a political appointee and as a civil servant. From 1993 to 1999 he was an appointee of the Clinton-Gore Administration serving as the Associate Administrator for Policy and Plans. As a civil servant from 1981 to 1989 he managed a variety of programs including the Space Flight Participant Program (Teacher in Space and Journalist in Space programs), and the Shuttle Student Involvement Program. He also served on the Administrator's Long Range Planning Task Force the produced the report Leadership and America's Future in Space (The Ride Report). NASA awarded Ladwig the Distinguished Service Medal, the Exceptional Achievement Medal, and two Exceptional Service Medals. He is a Fellow of the American Astronautical Society and serves on the Board of Directors of the Challenger Learning Center for Space Sciences and of Women in Aerospace. Ladwig served in the U.S. Army, 558th USA Artillery Group, in Athens, Greece. He earned a M.S. in Higher Education Administration and a B.S. in speech at Southern Illinois University.
Charles J. Lauer
Mr. Lauer is a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Architecture & Urban Planning. He is a co-founder and Vice President of Business Development for Rocketplane Global, Inc. He is also a successful real estate planning consultant and developer, and the President of Peregrine Properties, Ltd. in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Lauer has been responsible for negotiating, obtaining regulatory approvals and arranging financing for over $350 million in numerous successful real estate development projects. He has been researching and developing potential business opportunities in space since 1991, and has published many general interest articles and technical papers on commercial space development. Mr. Lauer has been a consultant to Boeing, NASA and several space start-ups on commercial space projects. He is now actively involved in the planning and development of several new spaceport projects around the world; and is an Advocate and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Space Frontier Foundation.
Roger D. Launius
Roger D. Launius is senior curator in the Division of Space History at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., where he was division chair 2003-2007. Between 1990 and 2002 he served as chief historian of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. A graduate of Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, he received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 1982. John C. Mankins is the President of ARTEMIS Innovation Management Solutions LLC, a research and development management consulting start-up that solves tough innovation challenges for government, industry and not-for-profit clients. He is internationally recognized as a successful leader in space systems and technology innovation, as a highly effective manager of large-scale technology R&D programs, and as an accomplished communicator. Mr. Mankins has 27 years of experience and knowledge involving NASA, the aerospace industry, academia and the international space community-as well with other U.S. Agencies, including the Department of Defense, (such as DDR&E, DARPA, NRO, NSSO), the National Science Foundation, and others. ARTEMIS Innovation provides consulting services to a range of clients, including the Department of Energy (for DOE's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy office, both the Solar Energy Technology Program and the Wind Program), the Office of Naval Research, the Applied Physics Laboratory, and a range of other organizations. Mr. Mankins is well known as an innovator in R&D management, and was one of the creators of the widely used technology readiness level (TRL) scale for technology assessment. Mr. Mankins is an acknowledged subject matter expert in these fields. Mr. Mankins led NASA's SSP Fresh Look Study in the mid-1990s, managed the SSP Exploratory Research & Technology (SERT) Program, and is the creator of several important SSP systems concepts, including the SunTower, the Solar Clipper, and others. He serves as the President of the Sunsat Energy Council (also known as the Space Power Association), a non-profit international group founded in 1978 by Dr. Peter Glaser, that promotes the potential of SSP for future application on Earth and in space. Mr. Mankins has authored numerous papers and articles on the topic of SSP and has testified before the U.S. Congress on the topic on several occasions. Mr. Mankins holds undergraduate (Harvey Mudd College; B.S., 1978) and graduate (UCLA; M.S., 1983) degrees in PHYSICS and earned an MBA in Public Policy Analysis (The Drucker School at Claremont Graduate University; MBA, 1986). He is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and the Sigma Xi Research Society. Mr. Mankins has received numerous awards and honors during his career, including the prestigious NASA Exceptional Technology Achievement Medal (of which he was the first recipient). He has been recognized in Who's Who on various occasions and was named by SpaceNews as one of the 100 People Who Made A Difference In Space (during 1989-2004)-a distinction he shared with NASA Administrators O'Keefe (former) and Griffin (current), as well as with former Congressman Robert Walker, innovator Burt Rutan, and others. Charles Miller
Mr. Miller became Constellation Services' 1st employee in September 1998, and since then has lead the development of the company from small startup to major player in the quest to provide on-orbit services. Under his direction, CSI became a subcontractor under NASA's 2nd Generation Reusable Launch Vehicle and Alternate Access to Station (AAS) "Phase 0" Concept Study programs, and then beat out at least seven other bidders to win one of the four NASA prime contracts under the AAS Phase 1 program. During this time, CSI worked with an established aerospace major hardware system supplier and AAS subcontractors to take CSI's design from concept through system design and into preliminary design. Mr. Miller has not only assembled and led the CSI executive team that achieved these accomplishments, but also has been responsible for raising over $1 million in private investment in CSI's business. Prior to CSI, Mr. Miller managed his own management consulting firm that provided services to small businesses and community organizations. Mr. Miller's services included general strategic planning; employee recruitment and retention, training, and retention; business management and control procedures; team building; conflict management strategies; and government affairs. Mr. Miller was the founding Chairman and President of ProSpace, where he served from 1996 to 1999. Known also as "The Citizens' Space Lobby," ProSpace is one of the most effective space policy groups working on Capitol Hill. Under Mr. Miller's leadership, ProSpace was instrumental in the passage of vital space-related legislative initiatives, including the Commercial Space Act of 1998, funding for NASA's X-33, Future-X and Space Solar Power programs, and the U.S. Air Force RLV Technology Development program. Mr. Miller has also served as Administrator and a director of the National Space Society, Vice President for Development and a director of the Space Frontier Foundation, and Vice-President for the California Space Development Council. Because of the depth of his knowledge of space policy issues and his numerous contacts in Congress and NASA, the leading firms in the commercial space industry often seek Mr. Miller's advice. Gerald E. Miller
For 22 years, Gerald Miller conducted Extravehicular Activities (EVAs) at NASA's Johnson Space Center, starting with early Shuttle missions, through joint Russian activities in the Shuttle/MIR Program, to International Space Station (ISS) Assembly. During this time, he trained over 50 crews for EVAs, logged the most missions as an EVA Flight Controller in the U.S., was the first American to staff a front-room console in the Russian Mission Control Center, and is the only person in the world who has led a team to conduct a three-person space walk. In April 2005, he accepted his current position as the Director of Independent Research and Development (IRAD) at United Space Alliance, (USA). In this position, Mr. Miller is responsible for company-wide oversight, management and control of IRAD activities and budget targeted for the development of strategic space operations technologies. Mr. Miller holds a bachelor of science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He also speaks Russian fluently.
Edward M. Morris
Edward M. Morris was appointed Director, Office of Space Commercialization (OSC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce in January, 2006. The Office of Space Commercialization (OSC) is responsible for implementing national space policies and promoting the capabilities of the U.S. commercial space industry. It acts as an industry liaison within the Executive Branch to ensure the U.S. Government maximizes its use of commercially available space goods and services, avoids legal and regulatory impediments, and does not compete with the U.S. space industry. OSC also supports the Deputy Secretary of Commerce in his role as a member of the National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Executive Committee and hosts the National Space-Based PNT Coordination Office (NCO). He is also the U.S. Government representative and co-chair of the U.S.-European Union Global Positioning System (GPS)-Galileo Working Group on Trade and Civil Applications. The working group is responsible for addressing non-discrimination and other trade related issues concerning civil satellite-based navigation and timing services and their augmentations. The objective of the working group is to ensure equal access to GPS and Galileo capabilities by worldwide government and industry users. Prior to his appointment with NOAA, Ed worked with Orbital Sciences Corporation from 1991 to 2006. His most recent position was Senior Director of the Washington, D.C. Operations, responsible for development and implementation of White House, federal agency, and legislative actions and policies related to military, civil and commercial space matters, as well as, missile defense and tactical weapons programs. He received the Outstanding Management Award in 2001 for outstanding achievement of key company business development goals. In 1997, he was assigned as Director of Business Development for the Launch Systems Group, primarily responsible for technical and marketing roles for missile defense, international, and classified program new business initiatives. Other Orbital assignments included project management and systems engineering of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and commercial launch services valued at $100M. Ed served in the U.S. Air Force from 1982 to 1991 in Space Acquisition, Launch Operations, and HQ USAF staff positions. He transferred in 1991 to the U.S. Air Force Reserve and continues to be active in his Reserve duties where he has served in a variety of staff and personnel assignments attaining the rank of Colonel. His military honors include the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Air Force Achievement Medal and is a graduate of Air War College, Air Command and Staff College, and Squadron Officer's School where he completed as a distinguished graduate. Ed has a bachelor's degree in engineering from Rutgers University and a Master's in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. Ed and his wife, Geary, live in Falls Church, Virginia.
James Muncy
James A. M. Muncy founded PoliSpace, an independent space policy consultancy, in early 2000 to help space entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs succeed at the nexus of business, public affairs, and technology. His clients have included several companies in the emerging private human space flight industry, firms offering commercial services to NASA spaceflight programs, and government managers of Air Force military space projects. In 2004 and 2005 Muncy led two successful industry lobbying efforts: winning enactment of the Commercial Space Launch Amendments Act of 2004 (P.L 108-492), and securing an amendment to the Iran Nonproliferation Act to allow NASA to buy commercial space goods and services with Russian content. Immediately prior to establishing PoliSpace, Muncy spent over five years working for the U.S. House of

Representatives. From 1997 through early 2000 he served on the Professional Staff of the House Science Committee's Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee. In addition to being Chairman Dana Rohrabacher's staff designee, Muncy held the lead responsibility for issues and programs such as reusable launch vehicles, human space flight commercialization, military space technology, export control reform, range modernization, and future NASA programs. Prior to this, Muncy spent over two years on Rep. Rohrabacher's personal staff as his Legislative Assistant for Space. Before joining congressional staff in late 1994, Muncy spent nine years as a space policy and marketing consultant for various clients including NASA, NOAA, several private firms, and the not-forprofit space community, while also securing a graduate degree. In the mid-1980's he worked for two and a half years as a policy assistant in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy under President Reagan, where he served as the White House's Staff Liaison to the National Commission on Space. Muncy began his career in space policy in 1981 as a staff advisor in the Office of Congressman Newt Gingrich, where he helped Mr. Gingrich co-found the Congressional Space Caucus and develop visionary space policy legislation and initiatives. A long-time leader in the space advocacy community, Muncy co-founded the Space Frontier Foundation in 1988 and served as its Chairman of the Board for six years. Earlier he had served on the Board of Directors of both the National Space Society and the L5 Society. He is a frequent speaker and writer on space policy issues. Muncy holds an MS in Space Studies from the Center for Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota and a BA from the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar.
Andrew Nelson
Nelson leads the all business related functions of XCOR. He joined XCOR from Morgan Stanley, and was previously with Lehman Brothers, where he served as a banker to technology entrepreneurs and others, advising on capital structure, investments, strategic relationships and market dynamics. Until joining XCOR, he was also an active angel investor. Prior to Wall Street and graduate studies at MIT, Nelson was based in Paris and London where he led the International Aviation Team of Booz Allen & Hamilton. His duties included full profit and loss responsibility, business development and project execution on space and aviation related assignments for clients such as Inmarsat, Honeywell, Aerospatiale, Lockheed Martin, the European Space Agency, the European Commission and several national governments (e.g., Australia and United Kingdom). While at Booz, Nelson led the first full wide ranging technical, architectual and business case analysis for the implementation of the Galileo system which served as the basis for a European wide decision to move forward with the project. His team also produced the first European-wide multi-modal radionavigation plan that was accepted by 18 European countries and served as the requirements baseline for Galileo and other systems. Prior to Booz Allen, Nelson was an engineer for the MITRE Corporation where he led avionics development oversight programs and participated in international standardization efforts at ICAO and NATO, ensuring international and civil-military interoperability for en route and landing system avionics including ILS, MLS and GPS. His first professional position was at Cape Canaveral for a NASA and USAF contractor where he assisted in the development of range safety systems used in the Range Control Center, implemented and certified the Launch Pad Lightning Warning System, and was a critical team member in the integration of inertial sensors and GPS for precise missile tracking applications on board ship based platforms. Nelson also helped to develop one of the world's first differential GPS (DPGS) systems while an undergraduate research intern at his alma mater. Nelson has published widely on space and aviation related issues, and was a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for GPS World Magazine. He received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and BSEE from Ohio University where he was a research intern at the famed Avionics Engineering Center.
Dr. George C. Nield

Dr. George C. Nield serves as the Associate Administrator for Commercial Space Transportation at the FAA. He has over 30 years of aerospace experience with the Air Force, at NASA, and in private industry. Dr. Nield came to the FAA from the Orbital Sciences Corporation, where he served as Senior Scientist for the Advanced Programs Group. His previous assignments include working as an Astronautical Engineer at the Space and Missile Systems Organization, a Flight Test Engineer at the Air Force Flight Test Center, and an Assistant Professor and Research Director at the USAF Academy. He was the Manager of the Flight Integration Office for the Space Shuttle Program at the NASA Johnson Space Center, and later worked on both the Shuttle/Mir Program and the International Space Station Program. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, he holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, and an MBA from George Washington University. He is also a Flight Test Engineering graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School. Dr. Nield is a registered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Misuzu Onuki

Ms. Misuzu Onuki has been an innovator in the development of space tourism and space commercialization research for over 15 years, and she has created space cultural projects such as Fashion in Space and Weddings in Space. She worked for the Space Systems Division of Shimizu Corporation, one of the largest general construction companies in Japan, and participated in some of the earliest studies of commercial space travel in Japan and other countries for NAL (now JAXA). She founded the Japan Women's Space Forum in 2001. She was an associate researcher of Japan Women's University from 2003 to 2007, and a part time senior specialist for space education with JAXA from 2004 to 2006. Ms. Onuki has been an independent aerospace business consultant since 2003. Her space related research themes are space tourism, space commercialization, space architecture, space education, space psychology space casual wear, space food, and so on. She is the CEO of Zspace LLC, and has been doing professional space business development and consulting work in these fields. She has several professional affiliations including serving as a Board member of Spaceweek International Association (SIA). She has joined the Space Frontier Foundation as Advocate & Asia Liaison in 2005 and was elected to the SFF Board of Directors in 2007. She loves scuba diving and travel. Mr. Schuman has been an Attorney-Advisor at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, since 1990, where his clients have included the James Webb Space Telescope and Hubble Space Telescope Projects. He has served as Deputy Chief Counsel, Executive Officer to NASA's Chief of Staff, at NASA Headquarters, and as a Brookings Institution Congressional Fellow for Senator Bob Graham of Florida, where he worked on legislation to allow spaceports to issue tax-free bonds to raise revenue for infrastructure development. Geoffrey T. Sheerin
Mr. Sheerin is a graduate of the Fanshawe College School of Industrial Design located in London, Ontario, Canada. As CEO of PlanetSpace since its inception in 2005, Mr. Sheerin is responsible for the implementation of global fast freight including passenger space travel and other international markets. Col. Michael Coyote V. Smith

Colonel (Select) Michael V. Smith is the Chief of the Future Concepts Branch, known as Dream Works, of the National Security Space Office. Dream Works develops advanced theories and concepts and advises national-level decision makers across the space community on how emerging technologies, transformational-architecture-level capabilities, and future operational concepts can be applied toward current and evolving space capabilities to meet national security needs into the future. He also serves as a Visiting Military Fellow at National Defense University where he is co-authoring a two-volume set on spacepower theory. The lieutenant colonel was born in North Conway, New Hampshire. He entered the Air Force in 1986 through the Saint Michael's College Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He has served in various space and missile positions and as an instructor at the USAF Weapons School-Space Division. Most recently he was Commander of the 321st Missile Squadron at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne Wyoming, where his unit was recognized as the Best ICBM Squadron in Air Force Space Command. During Operation ALLIED FORCE he served in the Combined Forces Air Component Commander's Strategy Cell and on the Guidance, Apportionment, and Targeting Team. During Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, he served at USCENTCOM Headquarters as a strategist on the Combatant Commander's staff and in the Space and Information Operations Element. He later served as the chief air and space power strategist in the Pentagon's Strategic Planning Council during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
Andrew J. Petro
Andrew Petro is the Program Executive for the Innovation Incubator in the Innovative Partnership Program Office at NASA Headquarters. His responsibilities include the Centennial Challenges program and several other government-private enterprise partnership activities. He joined NASA at the Johnson Space Center in 1985 in the Advanced Programs Office, developing concepts for human launch systems, space stations, lunar transportation, lunar bases and Mars exploration. He led numerous design projects for spacecraft concepts and worked with Russian engineers to adapt the Soyuz spacecraft for use with the International Space Station. As a systems engineer and project manager in the NASA Advanced Space Propulsion Laboratory he led superconducting magnet and cryocooler technology projects and other efforts supporting development and demonstration of a magneto-plasma rocket engine. Most recently he was the Ares Launch Vehicle Integration Manager for the Mission Operations Directorate at the Johnson Space Center.
Rich Pournelle
Rich Pournelle is currently Director of Business Development for XCOR. Rich began his career as staff assistant to congressman Bill Thomas and in this role developed the THOMAS legislative information system for the Library of Congress. Most recently, he was co-founder of WarrantyNow and helped the company raise more than $18 million in equity before its acquisition by CNET. Mr. Pournelle has a communications degree from UCLA.

Mr. Greg Ray has a degree in Aerospace Engineering and began his career with Rockwell International at their Los Angeles Division in 1971. He became a Boeing employee in 1996 when Boeing acquired Rockwell's Aerospace and Defense business unit. His program experience includes the B-1 Bomber development and flight test program, the Sea Launch development program, and the Space Shuttle development and operations program. Mr. Ray has held numerous management positions on the Boeing Shuttle program. These include; Chief Project Engineer for System Integration, Program Director for System Integration, Chief Engineer for Orbiter and Orbiter Program Director. He has received the Sliver Knight of Management award from the National Management Association and NASA's most distinguished service award, the Public Service Medal.
Billl Reeves
Bill Reeves serves as associate program manager for program integration at United Space Alliance. In this position he is responsible for Space Shuttle cargo and systems integrations and International Space Station Program Office integration. He also directs configuration and verification management and technical information systems management. Reeves previously served as deputy program manager for program integration, becoming APM in September of 2005. Prior to working in program integration, Reeves served as deputy associate program manager for the orbiter element. Reeves joined USA in March 2001. Before joining the USA team, Reeves served in various roles during 34 years with NASA. His positions included work as a NASA Flight Director, Manager of the Space Station Assembly Office, Manager of Space Shuttle/Space Station Integration, Branch Chief of the Engineering Products Office, and Mission Manager in the Earth Resources Aircraft Program. Throughout his distinguished career, Reeves has been honored with numerous awards including the NASA Superior Performance Award, NASA Exceptional Service Medal, NASA Outstanding Performance Award, Russian Space Medal, NASA Superior Accomplishment Award, and special recognition and letter of appreciation from the NASA manager of the Space Station Program. Reeves received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Oklahoma University, and a masters degree in business administration from the University of Houston Clear Lake in Texas. He holds an aviation safety command course certificate from the Naval Post Graduate School. Reeves is married to the former Virginia Ann Michel, and currently resides in Friendswood, Texas.

Prior to Exo, he was founder of Monumental Venture Partners, LLC (MVP) making investments in security, information technology, telecommunications, software and medical devices sectors. MVP produced acquisitions of portfolio companies to Dolby Labs and Level 3 Communications. Before MVP, Marco launched New Ventures, MCI's venture capital unit until the company's acquisition in 1998. Prior to venture capital, Marco served Fortune 500 and Federal clients while with Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc. He began his career as an engineer at Johnson Space Center and holds an MBA from George Washington University and a BSEE from the University of New Mexico.
Guillermo Shnlein
Guillermo Shnlein Managing Director, Space Angels Network Guillermo Shnlein has spent almost ten years in leadership roles with various technology startups in the Washington D.C. area as well as Silicon Valley. His recent East Coast ventures include an online service helping commuters to share rides, a mobile games distribution platform, and a Web-based communication suite for small and mid-sized businesses. Previously, he was co-founder of a San Francisco-based speech recognition application development firm that was acquired in 2001. Guillermo is the Founder and Chairman of the International Association of Space Entrepreneurs, an online community focused on promoting global entrepreneurship in space ventures. He served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps as a Judge Advocate and currently serves on various Advisory Boards and teaches entrepreneurship. Guillermo earned an A.B. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law.
Dennis Stone

Dennis Stone is Assistant Manager for Commercial Space Development in NASA's Commercial Crew & Cargo Program at the Johnson Space Center. This Program manages NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) initiative. During both COTS competitions, he chaired the Business Committee. He also negotiated the Program's agreements with unfunded commercial space transportation partners. He leads efforts to support this emerging industry as a whole. Prior to his COTS assignment, Dennis spent 20 years in NASA's Space Station Program in a variety of positions, including Chief System Engineer of the Assured Crew Return Vehicle, Manager of Avionics Integration, and Cochair of the ISS Commercialization Working Group. Prior to NASA, he worked for McDonnell Douglas, Ford Aerospace, and Rockwell. Throughout his career, he has encouraged efforts to build the commercial space industry. Dennis serves as volunteer President of the World Space Week Association which coordinates UN-declared World Space Week, celebrated each October 4-10 in over 50 nations. He has bachelor degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii. He is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA and Advocate of the Space Frontier Foundation.
Geoffrey Styles
Geoffrey Styles is Managing Director of GSW Strategy Group, LLC, an energy and environmental strategy consulting firm. Since 2002 he has served as a consultant and advisor, helping organizations and executives address systems-level policy. His 27 years of industry experience include 22 years at Texaco Inc., which culminated in a senior position on Texaco's leadership team for strategy development. This role encompassed the global oil refining, marketing, transportation and alternative energy businesses, along with global issues such as climate change and sustainable development. Previously he held senior positions in alliance management, planning, supply & distribution, and risk management. He also served on NASA's Senior Management Oversight Committee for Space Solar Power. He holds an M.B.A from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from U.C. Davis. Berin Szoka
Berin Szoka is a Visiting Fellow at The Progress & Freedom Foundation (PFF). He has been an Advocate of the Space Frontier Foundation since 2005, when he worked with Rick Tumlinson, Jim Dunstan and others to launch the Institute for Space Law & Policy. He is continuing that program today at PFF. Before joining PFF in May 2008, Szoka was an Associate in the Communications Practice Group at Latham and Watkins LLP, where he advised clients on advising clients on regulations affecting the satellite, telecommunications and Internet industries. He previously practiced at Lawler Metzger Milkman & Keeney, LLC, a boutique telecommunications law firm in Washington, and clerked for the Hon. H. Dale Cook, Senior U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Szoka received his Bachelor's degree in economics from Duke University and his juris doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as Submissions Editor of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology.
Rick Tumlinson
Named by Space News as one of the world's top "Visionaries" and one of the hundred most influential people in the space movement, Rick is a Texan and was a protg of Gerard K. O'Neill at the Space Studies Institute, founder of the Space Frontier Foundation (whose first $50 came from the Heinleins), a founding trustee of the X Prize and a lead witness 6 times at House and Senate hearings on the future of NASA, the U.S. space program and space tourism. Rick helped create or find funding for many NewSpace firms and projects and ran the $25 million Foundation for the International Non-governmental Development of Space (FINDS). He co-founded LunaCorp, which produced the first commercial to be shot in space, signed up Dennis Tito as the first commercial space flight participant and led the team which leased the Russian Mir space station for a year (the world's first commercial space facility.) He helped kick-start the Lunar Prospector project which discovered water on the Moon, was a member of the Air Force's DC-X single stage rocket team, produced the first paid political announcement for space, was the Sci Fi channel's founding space expert, and did the core media used to fund the International Space University, the X-33 and other projects. Rick was one of only 20 outsiders invited by the White House to witness President Bush's announcement of his space exploration initiative to return to the Moon and go to Mars. Rick has been quoted around the world, from China's People's Daily to the front page of the New York Times, and appears often on news shows from CNN to the BBC. His book, "Return to the Moon" was recently published and he was a part of NASA's prestigious Lunar Exploration Analysis Group, helping lay out the framework for the first human outpost on the Moon. He recently co-founded the Institute for

Space Law and Policy in Washington and has two Major NewSpace projects underway: Orbital Outfitters, a fully funded space suit leasing firm whose motto is Have Spacesuit - Will Travel. and SpaceDiver, whose goal is to bring humans back from space without spacecraft a la Starship Troopers.
William Watson
William Watson is presently Executive Director of the Space Frontier Foundation (SFF). He endeavors to create new business relationships for the Foundation and to communicate their vision. He is also serving as Chair of their annual NewSpace conference. This year the conference takes place in Washington DC, from July 17-19. Will chaired NewSpace 2007 in D.C. and was part of the SFF's management team during NewSpace 2006 in Vegas. Before the Foundation, Will worked for the Tauri Group as an analyst on the Space Foundation's The Space Report and on spaceport related business development. Mr. Watson's professional involvement with the NewSpace industry started with his graduate placement at the Transformational Space Corporation, LLC (t/Space) during the Summer of 2005. Will received his Master's in Space Management from the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France. The year long MSM graduate program focused on aerospace business, marketing and law. Prior to ISU, Mr. Watson received a BA in Russian Literature & History from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He has studied in Moscow at Lomonosov University and as part of the Institute for Biomedical Problems' Summer space program.
Bob Werb
Bob Werb was an active partner in Rivercrest Realty Investors from 1976 until 2001. Rivercrest Realty Investors is a privately held, real estate firm that owns and manages a portfolio of garden apartments, shopping centers and office buildings with properties in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and Florida. Since 2001 he has assumed a more passive role in Rivercrest Realty Investors and has been spending more time working on a variety of projects including the Space Frontier Foundation. Bob is one of the three founders of the Space Frontier Foundation.
Frank White
Frank White is the author of The Overview Effect: Space Exploration and Human Evolution, first published in 1987 and re-issued in 1998. A member of the Harvard College Class of 1966, Frank graduated magna cum laude, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He attended Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, earning an MPhil in 1969. He is the author or co-author of five additional books on space exploration and the future, including The SETI Factor, Decision: Earth, Think About Space and March of the Millennia (both with Isaac Asimov), and The Ice Chronicles (with Paul Mayewski). He also contributed chapters on The Overview Effect to two recently published books on space exploration, Return to the Moon and Beyond Earth. Frank has spoken at numerous conferences. In 1988, he delivered the keynote address at the International Space Development Conference in Denver. In 1989, he spoke at George Washington University to mark the 20th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. In 2006, the Space Tourism Society awarded Frank a Certificate of Special Recognition. He also delivered the keynote address at the first Overview Effect Conference in 2007.
Loretta Hildago Whitesides

Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides is on the Board of Directors for the Space Generation Advisory Council. Space Gen is a non-profit dedicated to training and developing the next generation of space leaders. She is also the President of the International Space University USA Alumni Association. Loretta and her husband George are the Co-Creators of Yuri's Night, the World Space Party, which earned wide acclaim this year for the very successful event at NASA Ames. She is an FAA certified in-flight crew member for Zero-Gravity Corporation and has over 30 flights. Loretta traveled 2 miles down to the bottom of the ocean in the Russian Mir Submersibles for James Cameron's 3D IMAX documentary, "Aliens of the Deep." Whitesides is a Virgin Galactic Founder and she and her new husband George have bought tickets to be the 1st couple to celebrate their honeymoon in space.

Edward Wright is Teachers in Space project manager, chairman of the United States Rocket Academy, and a long-time Advocate of the Space Frontier Foundation.

John Wright is the founder and executive director of Teach Kids About Science, a new organization dedicated to creating inspirational and sustainable science education events and programs for kids of all ages. John began his space career at the age of 16 while interning at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. At JPL, John worked on the Galileo mission to Jupiter, the Cassini mission to Saturn, and the Pluto Fast Flyby Mission. In the summer of 1992, John worked at NASA Headquarters on a Space Shuttle mission called Space Lab Japan. John has 20 years of science education and space event management experience which began in 1988 when he helped plan the 1989 SEDS International Conference held at Caltech. During his time in SEDS, John founded two SEDS chapters and was elected to the SEDS-USA National Executive Board for four terms. When John was 17 years old, he became the youngest chairman of a SEDS conference. The CalSEDS'91 student space conference was held at Caltech and hosted speakers including former Astronaut Deke Slayton, ISU founder Todd Hawley, and member of Ronald Reagan's National Commission on Space, Dr. David Webb. In 2001 John joined the founding Yuri's Night headquarters team and is still active in Yuri's Night Los Angeles. In 2002, John joined George Whitesides, currently the Executive Director of the National Space Society, in co-managing Permission to Dream, a telescope education project of the Space Frontier Foundation. John holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Occidental College. When he's not planning Scope 101, you can find John studying for the CPA exam.
