PICTURE TASK (3-5 min) THE AIM: To learn to make a distinction between Great Britain, England and United Kingdom by using a handout which contains very vivid and self-explanatory diagram. Teacher asks if anyone knows the difference between Great Britain, England and United Kingdom. Teacher distributes the handouts and goes through them with the class. Teacher gradually guides students through diagram, gives clear explanations and writes on a blackboard diagram step by step. I would like you to take a look at the handout. What do you see on the handout? Can anyone read and explain the diagram to the class. If no one answers, teacher says: On this handout there is a diagram which will help you learn what countries United Kingdom consists of. Teacher stands in front of the students and starts explaining the diagram. Teacher explains slowly so that all students can follow and understand. Once finished with explaining, the teacher asks who would like to repeat everything and uses the blackboard to write on countries of United Kingdom. EXERCISE 1 (10 min) THE AIM: To teach students vocabulary of national identity and to teach them which of the listed words in the book are used for describing people and which for describing countries. Once students have finished reading statements teacher says: You are going to listen CD two times. During first time, listen and answer as many questions as possible, and during second time, answer the questions you missed. Do not pay attention to the words you do not understand. Teacher plays CD. After the second time, students together with the teacher are checking the exercise.
