PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Membership dues for Home and School are due by November 1st. MC has
the forms for anyone interested and the cost is $15. It is important to have for insurance purposes.
The Home and School is independent from the Board. The Hamilton Home and School is putting on a
Home and School 101 on October 19, @ 7:00 pm at the office located at Main and Bay.
Facilities Update
-circulation/ventilation – doing replacements in the building and the heating has been installed
-windows – all the windows are now on order. Hopefully they will be ready to go in by mid-Nov
-mats & floor in gym- The Board put in strips on the walls in the gym to put mats on. The mats
on the wall now are extras from Osler. We have ordered some for the ends of the gym. The
mats can be removed if needed. The school is still looking into a new floor. One quote for a
new Terra Floor was $90,000. This is much too high and BM will continue to look into this.
-b-ball hoops-The new basketball hoops have been installed. Thanks to the Home and School
for approving by use of the Playground Structure Fund
-roof-There has been some leaking in Mr. Bell’s hall and the primary hall. The company is
looking into replacing some of the shingles.
School Trips
-grade 6 is going to Wanikita. The cost is $200.
-Grade 7 is going to St. Donat. The cost is $600. The students are exposed to the French
culture and have a great outdoor experience doing such things as tubing and skiing.
-Grade 8 is going to Quebec City. The cost is $600. The students enjoy this beautiful city and
get the opportunity to visit a variety of historical locations.
The number of students attending the Grade 7 and Grade 8 trips this year has declined. BM is
concerned that the cost of the trips may be a financial burden to many families and it might be
time to look at some other options that are less expensive for the parents. Suggestions?
TREASURER’S REPORT
See attached. All the receipts are in for ’081 & ’09 and Home & School has $2,248 to spend. This is
more than was expected.
The Home & School has approved $775 to be used to purchase track and field shirts (request for the
gym program). These shirts will also be used for the cross county teams. Voted that $1500 total this
year go to the physical educational department. Was voted and no opposition.
$1000 was also approved for the Food for Thought Program last year (proceeds from Holiday Baskets).
ELECTION
All of last year’s executive is stepping down. MC asked if anyone at the meeting was willing to step into
any on the roles.
Mary Gillis will continue as our Teacher Representative.
Michelle Chin is now the Website Editor and Past President
Jenny Pepper is the new Treasurer
Nicole Ferris will continue as Co-Secretary with Michelle Chin
No one stepped forward as President or Vice-President. The Home & School will have to continue to
function without these positions. We will have to rotate members chairing the meetings until a
president is found. MG has offered to chair the next meeting.
MC –We need people to do smaller parts of the big job. We need people to run events or they will have
to be cancelled.
Food 4 Thought
MG initiated a snack program last year that made snacks available to kids in the school who needed
them. This year we would like to expand on the idea. The plan is for each class room to have a weekly
bin which will contain fresh fruit and sandwiches starting October 19th. These bins will be available to
the students who need it without them having to ask for help. The bins will be taken to the Day Care
Centre at Knox Church which has agreed to help us by properly sanitizing the bins. (There are no
facilities at Dundas Central that.would meet the ministry’s guidelines for proper cleaning). We need
volunteers to help with food preparation, transportation of the bins and distribution at the school. If you
can help, please contact MG or MC. Proceeds from the holiday baskets will go towards supporting this
program.
Active Recess
BM-25 grade 7&8 kids have signed up to run activities at recess with the primary grades. This will be
with the supervision of BM and Wally. The will run 3 on 3 and skipping games.
2nd part – get more balls into the classrooms. The phys ed department is going to purchase new balls,
so the old balls will be placed into the classrooms. There is enough for 2-3 balls each and they will be
monitored by the teachers. These are to be used for nutrition break only. We would like to encourage

the kids to bring in balls to school as well. The next newsletter will provide a list of things that can be
brought into the school.
Teachers and volunteers are now wearing vests in the Kindergarten pen.
Monopoly Tournament.
MP brought forth a new fundraising idea. Parish and him would like to run a monopoly tournament.
Hasboro would work with us. MP will make a presentation at the next meeting as he need to have as
much notice as possible to run this kind of fundraiser.
Our Next Meeting: Tuesday, November 3rd, 7:00 - 8:30 pm Staff Room
