Evaluation question 1 Questions for the director 1.

In your music video, what sort of message did you want to convey to the audience and by what techniques was this achieved? We wanted to bring out the theme of insomnia that can is an issue which has been tackled with throughout the century. The music video is a very easy way to express this concern. We were able to achieve this by the equipment that we used that ranged from the camera to the costume. The environment and setting was also very crucial to emphasize the meaning behind the issue. 2. What elements in the mise en scene helped to express the message you wanted to convey? What was in the frame was very important to give a clear view on what insomnia meant to the group. Everyone thought of a common place which the main character would be facing these problems and we were able to conclude that the performance pieces should be in a secluded area, drama room that substituted for the mind and a sitting room that was there for a realistic setting. Inside the sitting room, the main objects we see are the TV, black chair and mirror. All these would give a very general viewpoint to the main character but when we are in the drama room there is absolutely nothing but the main character which will is somehow a metaphor to what is wrong with the person. 3. Was there any sort of camera shots which emphasized the theme that through your video? There were many camera shots which helped create a very abstract feel to the video. This was done through the titling of the camera, which gave a very abnormal feel to the piece especially when we want the audience to feel strange and weird because of the theme we are tackling. 4. There are different sorts of conventions that in your video, such as taking drugs and the abstract portrayal of the persons mind, do you think you were able to achieve the conventions which you first wanted to explore? It has changed the idea, but it was done very easily by the camera work and by the sound/music which I know will help create more of a disturbed atmosphere to the piece. 5. Do you think your music video challenged any stereotypes of the theme you wanted to display? To an extent where we are able to see that some stereotypes are beginning to be challenged especially when we analyse the viewpoint of the person being young. However there are many times when the video is siding with the stereotypical viewpoint of the person being a male and young which we werent able to challenge. 6. Where did you get the idea for this certain song and do you think it fit in with the performance that was shown? 7. Do you think the end result of your digipak and poster lived up to the expectations you wanted at the start of the project and during the filming of the music video? The fact that the music video reflects the certain issue we wanted to explore, this was easy to show it through the digipak and posters. I do think we able to achieve what we wanted from the

start knowing it has progressed because of the time we spent on it and the research we needed to create the final piece and poster. 8. Does your digipak and poster in any way challenge the conventions of a typical indie rock band? I think that it does, because it is a very simplistic cover which doesnt show that much or give much information about the band, and the colours are very minimal which also give the digipak and poster a very independent representation of our band whereas the indie bands can be very bright and recognizable. 9. Where did you get the inspiration of your digipak and poster?
