General troubleshooting solutions 1-1. If a Windows shared printer cannot be monitored, check the following: *Make sure that the printer driver is installed on the computer that is hosting the Windows shared printer and that, in the printer driver, the printer is set to be shared. Also make sure that "Allow monitoring of shared printers" is selected in the Monitoring Preferences dialog box. *(Windows Me/98/95) On the server, double-click the Network icon in Control Panel and make sure that the "File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" component is installed. Then, on the server AND clients, if the "IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol" is installed, make sure that the "TCP/IP Protocol" is also installed. 1-2. Limitation when monitoring Windows shared printers over routers In Windows Me/98/95/NT 4.0, Windows shared printers cannot be monitored over routers. In Windows XP/2000, you can monitor Windows shared printers over routers if you select the "Monitor over routers" check box in the More Settings dialog box accessed via the Monitoring Preferences dialog box. 1-3. If network printers cannot be monitored after returning from sleep mode in a Windows 95 environment, do the following: Close the printer driver and EPSON Status Monitor 3, then restart the Status Mon itor. For information on accessing the Status Monitor, see your printer's Refere nce Guide.

1-4. To ensure proper operation, a computer name must be entered in the computer 's settings. Make sure there are no invalid characters in the name. If your pri nter is shared or on a network, make sure the name is unique to your computer. F or information on setting the computer name, see the documentation for your oper ating system. 1-5. In some cases, warnings might not be displayed when print jobs from two or more computers are in the print queue at the same time. 2. Solutions for Windows XP/2000/NT environment 2-1. When uninstalling EPSON Status Monitor 3 from a multi-user Windows XP/2000/NT environment, remove the shortcut icon from all clients before uninstalling.
