The knowledge acquired in schools and colleges, I believe is not an education, but the means to it. It is this belief that makes me a student to the end of my days: the obvious direction being curiosity towards ex loration. !ne of the memories of my childhood I dee ly cherish is that of my first day in school. I distinctly remember my eyes watering as my arents bade me good"bye leaving me in an alien environment. #e were made to draw ictures of familiar ob$ects, my teacher recited rhymes in a soothing voice and by the end of the day I began to love school. I was fortunate to have begun with a good early education and as I grew, my interests and ability were inclined towards the hysical nature of the universe. %cience unraveled many a mystery for me math challenged me and gave me $oy. &earning itself became key to my life. 'y res ect for education and inclination towards a lied science drove me to o t for math, hysics ortunity to learn and ex lore how the

and chemistry in my higher secondary education. (fter com leting my high school, I felt that )ngineering would be the area, which would give me the o fundamentals of science are a lied to create technology for ractical and real ur oses. 'oreover,

my innate strengths have always been creative abilities and the ower of imagination* which made me take u a disci line that would allow me to channel them in the best ossible way. Thus, 'echanical engineering was a direct consequence of my convictions. %ub$ects like 'anufacturing

undergraduate study was a richly rewarding ex erience, during which I have artici ated in various Industrial training rograms. The ursuit for knowledge has been the su reme goal in my life. #e are in an era of global and technological changes where boundaries are fast disa earing and the greatest challenge tomorrow holds for us is to manage continuity of change. To satiate my curiosity and to fulfill my ambitions I have decided to ursue a masters rogram in 'echanical )ngineering. I would like to get involved in research work in this area. (lthough there is a vast sco e for research in this area, the sco e for

research in India is limited. The need for ex osure to a wider environment has rom ted me to seek an o ortunity to study in the 2nited %tates. The ever"increasing art layed by com uters in every lication software disci line of )ngineering and their synergetic role in manufacturing rocedures called ,om uter Integrated 'anufacturing or ,I' has encouraged me to learn various design a ackages like (uto ,ad 3443/ +ro"). To tell you more about my interest, the final year ro$ect# -esign of 5ori1ontal 'achining center % indle &ine )lements which aims at incor orating few features of standard -esign models, was an o ortunity to gain knowledge of design a lications in 'echanical )ngg. The 6 years degree undergraduate course has not only rovided me strong fundamentals, but also has encouraged me to learn more and goaded me to continue research related activities. 'y immediate career ob$ective is a masters degree in )ngineering followed by a +h- and research oriented career in industry or academia. The choice of a good university with a faculty dedicated to teaching and research and an atmos here conducive to learning, thus becomes extremely necessary. (fter going through your website I found that by taking graduate studies at your university# I would be able to venture out into various sub$ect domains and also develo a strong sense of inde endence cou led with res onsibility and self"reliance, characteristic of the (merican culture. It would also hel me to learn global standards in this field and become aware of the worldwide com etition, which I consider would be a great hel for me to make a strong contribution in the field of 'echanical )ngineering. 7our university with its unique graduate embark u on an academic career. I would be glad if given a research or a teaching assistantshi because in addition to easing the financial burden on me, it would go a long way in re aring me for a career in research and teaching. I look forward to a challenging career in research which may even be arduous and demanding at times but I am confident that with my sincerity and dedication, I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to the ongoing research develo ments and live u to the high standards ex ected off your university. 8iven an o ortunity, I shall strive to channel my unbridled efforts into more roductive avenues. rogram in 'echanical )ngineering and with its commitment to foster intellectual excellence is remarkable and attractive to
