Real skills for the real world

Our Apprenticeships make everyone a winner
Redcar & Cleveland Colleges Apprenticeship programmes turn people into talented and skilled employees who can be a true asset to businesses. We work to support both the apprentice and employer to ensure the training meets the required standards to achieve success for all. Intermediate Apprenticeship
An Intermediate Apprenticeship is made up of Level 2 competence and knowledge qualifications and Level 1/2 Functional Skills. It is equivalent to five GCSE passes.

Advanced Apprenticeship
An Advanced Apprenticeship is made up of Level 3 competence and knowledge qualifications and Level 1/2 Functional Skills. It is equivalent to two A level passes.

What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is a paid training programme that takes place whilst employed, leading to accredited qualifications that are truly valued by employers. Employees on an Apprenticeship programme spend most of their time working on the job with their employer, with off the job training completed at college on a day-release basis. The amount of hours spent at college and attendance times vary depending on the Apprenticeship and the needs of the employer. The College has a flexible approach in supporting employers, meaning all our Apprenticeships are provided in a way that best suits the employer and their needs.

Who are they for?

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16 years of age subject to eligibility whether a school leaver starting out on a career, a new member of staff or an existing employee who has taken on additional duties and requires upskilling. Employees must have a job that matches their chosen Apprenticeship and the employer must have agreed to give the employee the opportunity to fulfil the range of tasks necessary to achieve the qualifications. Whilst on an Apprenticeship programme, employees will earn at least the National Minimum Wage for apprentices. www.cleveland.ac.uk | 01642 513200 3

What are the benefits to employers?

Whatever the size of your business, our Apprenticeship programmes are tailored to suit your needs. We have a wide range of Apprenticeships to choose from, specifically delivered with the needs of local employers in mind. We are committed to maintaining strong links between the employer, the apprentice and the College throughout, making for a truly personalised approach.

Increase productivity and motivation

Apprentices bring increased productivity, commitment and competence to your workforce. As apprentices are more motivated after all, they have made an active choice to follow this learning and career route they work harder and more effectively for you.

Improve your bottom line

Employing and training apprentices is often more cost effective than hiring skilled staff and can lead to lower overall training and recruitment costs. Funding for Apprenticeship training is available subject to eligibility. The size of the contribution varies depending on the age of the apprentice and size of the business.

Fill your skills gaps

Apprenticeships provide an ideal mixture of on the job and off the job training to provide the skilled workers you need for the future. This means that you can utilise an Apprenticeship programme for new employees or to develop and upskill existing staff members who have had a change of role.

What are the benefits to employees?

An Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining work-based experience with your employer, balanced with relevant, practical, vocational and knowledgebased training at college or online.

Receive training
Throughout your Apprenticeship you will receive support from both your employer and the College. We will ensure that your training fits your personal requirements and provides you with the skills you need.

Preparation for the real world

Our apprentices work alongside industry specialists at the College, receiving valuable training that turns them into talented and skilled employees and preparing them for a successful career in their chosen industry. The College building contains the best professional equipment with facilities for apprentices replicating real work environments. Apprentices also have access to the Colleges Learning Resource Centre, which offers up-todate learning materials including computers with the latest software. We support both the apprentice and the employer and ensure that the skills developed meet the needs of the business, in addition to preparing the apprentice for life in the real world.

Earn a salary
Apprenticeships enable you to earn at least the National Minimum Wage for apprentices.

Learn job specific skills

Learn in a way that is best suited to you through relevant hands-on experience on the job. An Apprenticeship will provide you with the skills you need to enhance your financial and career prospects in the workplace after your programme.

CASE STUDY
Craig Wilson, Engineering Apprentice
Engineering apprentice Craig Wilson is looking forward to an exciting career after studying at Redcar & Cleveland College. Craig, aged 21, undertook a fouryear Apprenticeship with local chemical manufacturing company SABIC whilst studying a Higher National Certificate in Chemical Engineering at the College.

Real partnerships with real benefits...

As an employer looking for a college that can offer a high standard of training to match our high standard of workmanship, I have been more than happy for my two apprentices to attend Redcar & Cleveland College. I know they are being taught by competent tutors who have worked in the plumbing and gas industries themselves. Owner, Patterdale Plumbing Service

Not only did Craig complete his Higher National Certificate with a double distinction award, he also won the Tees Valley Production Technician (TVPT) Studentship award (achieving the highest points score ever for a TVPT apprentice). Craigs hard work and determination has secured him a full-time job with SABIC and he now looks forward to a career in the industry. Hes not stopping there though Craig has now signed up to do a Chemical Engineering degree at Teesside University!

I have been very impressed with the Apprenticeship programme offered at Redcar & Cleveland College. The lecturers all have significant industry experience and have a passion about what they do that is contagious. Business Owner, Bambridge Heating

Apprenticeships are a great way to bring in young and energetic people who are ambitious and have a zest to learn and get on. They bring energy to the company, as well as fresh eyes, and in return they receive excellent training, qualifications and a wage. The benefits are great on both sides. Construction Director, Walter Thompson Construction
