Our more than 40 years of collective experience in the financial services industry has shown us that clients want to be responsible stewards of their wealth. To that end, we believe they appreciate the clarity we can bring to the wealth management process. We encourage you to ask questions as we work together to build your financial strategy. We want you to feel comfortable with us and with our recommendations, and we strive to earn your trust each day by focusing on meeting the complex needs that are unique to you. 3

Our approach
We help you make educated financial decisions that are based on economics rather than emotions. Ryan W. Tyler, CFA, CFP, CIMA
Wealth Management Advisor

Helping to take the emotion out of financial decisions

Often, a certain degree of emotionboth positive and negativeaccompanies the acquisition and management of significant wealth. It brings a set of complex challenges. We help you confront and understand these challenges by establishing a clear, goal-based wealth management strategy designed to help you determineand then pursueyour financial objectives. Although we view ourselves, first and foremost, as problem-solvers, there is far more to wealth management than that. We are committed to helping you invest and strategize the way institutions do: with a focus on economics, in order to help you make rational decisions about managing your wealth. Your goals may include purchasing a retirement home, caring for an elderly parent or funding your grandchildrens education. Or maybe you want to support a worthy cause or wish to leave a legacy for your children. Whatever your goals may be, we can help you determine strategies designed to help you move from Point A to Point B on the road to pursuing them.

Our process
The Wealth Management Process is essential to helping you identify goals and craft strategies you can use to pursue them. Cliff Tyler, CFM

We are avid listenersand take the time to really understand your current needs, concerns about managing your wealth and ideas for the future. To help you hone your vision, we use the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Process, a disciplined, four-step method of gathering information, organizing a targeted strategy and, ultimately, helping to suggest an investment portfolio that meets your needs. The process includes an ongoing progress review that helps keep your portfolio aligned with your goals and risk tolerance following shifts in the markets and your life. We also examine how the many aspects of your financial life work in concert, giving you the benefit of our experience and providing access to Merrill Lynch specialists when their skills and insights are required. We can meet and work with your other trusted advisors upon your requestsuch as your attorney, accountant and tax specialistand coordinate financial solutions designed to help you pursue your goals.

Strategic asset allocation

We fully believe that asset allocation is the single most important determinant of your portfolios performance. Ryan W. Tyler, CFA, CFP, CIMA

The foundation of our investment approach

While some advisors may help clients structure portfolios to mirror the market in terms of both potential returns and exposure to risk, we have found that this approach can expose investments to levels of market volatility that clients may find uncomfortable. In addition to causing clients undue stress on a personal level, this type of investing may also potentially result in a long-term loss of capital. At The Tyler Group, we believe it is important to help you structure the core of your portfolio in such a way that it is designed to mitigate downside risk while simultaneously positioning it to take advantage of the possibility of positive returns in the long term. We work with you to develop actively managed, global and flexible investment strategies and pinpoint well-respected investment managers to implement them. We recognize that each investors personal circumstances, goals and constraints differ, and may recommend diversifying your portfolio by incorporating private equity funds, commodities or hedge funds. At least once a yearmore often, when necessarywe review your portfolio with you and recommend rebalancing in order to keep it aligned with your strategy.

Spotting opportunity
When selecting third-party investment managers, we look for performance over the long termwhich we feel indicates skill as opposed to luckand then do a further level of review to make sure they share our investment philosophy. Ryan W. Tyler, CFA, CFP, CIMA

Using research to identify and evaluate potential investments

When seeking potential investment solutions that align with your wealth management strategy, we search both within and beyond the bounds of Merrill Lynch. We rely primarily on the world-class research supplied by BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research for in-depth information on stocks, bonds, global economics and investment strategy. In addition, we speak regularly with the analysts of the Investment Management & Guidance Group, who perform rigorous due diligence on third-party products, services and asset managers. Whenever possible, we personally interview the portfolio managers under consideration before adding them to our investment roster. This helps us get a clearer sense of their firms resources and management style. We also utilize The RIC Report, published by the Merrill Lynch Research Investment Committee. This monthly digest highlights significant strategic and tactical investment themes and provides asset allocation guidelines. Then we analyze factors such as assets under management, growth potential and long-term performance, although past performance does not guarantee future results. We then vet prospective candidates against your stated goals, time horizon and risk tolerance, suggesting the ones most suitable for you. 11
