The goal of house bill 826 is to allow local school systems the ability to deal with violations of school safety zones with their discretion. Under this bill schools will no longer be required to expel students who have a fishing nife or baseball bat in their cars on school campuses. The current consequence for carrying these weapons would be automatic suspension along with a felony charge. Allowing the school system to deal with these scenarios on a case by case basis will eliminate a students record and or image from being tainted from an offense that was an innocent misunderstanding. Creating an opportunity for children to avoid undeserved punishment. B. The benefit of the proposed solution is that student with innocent and honest intentions will not be harshly disciplined. This will allow students a second chance without having a criminal record or missing days of school due to suspension. !arents will be relieved that their child has been given a fair chance at the future.
