2. Introduction to NowWeMove
MOVE Week 2013

2.1 What is the NowWeMove Campaign?

Lack of physical activity is a bigger threat to public health than smoking. Two thirds of the adult population over 15 years in Europe do not reach the recommended level of activity, and as a consequence physical inactivity is estimated to attribute to one million deaths, about 10 % of the total, per year in Europe. To tackle this, ISCA launched the NowWeMove campaign with the vision to have 100 million more Europeans active in sport and physical activity by 2020. Evidently, a cross-sector approach is needed to engage stakeholders from health, sport, education, industry, urban planning etc and to work towards the vision. The campaign is comprised of four key pillars:

MOVE Week

- An annual European wide week,

Advocacy - To build and maintain sustainable

political support to increase participation in sport and physical activity.

promoting sport and physical activity and the recognized benefits of being active on a regular basis.

Capacity Building - To enable sport and

physical activity promoters to learn from research and good practice.

Awards - To recognise, celebrate and incentivise

physical activity promoters to be part of the campaign and create momentum and impact.
