Principals Column
Dear Parents, We have arrived at the point in the year when we begin to make plans for the upcoming academic year. We will soon begin the process of preparing class rosters for next year. Time and effort are invested so that classes meet the instructional needs of children. If you feel that your child has a special need or circumstance that you would like for us to consider, please put your request in writing and forward it to Boyd Hainsworth through delivery to the front office or through email to BHainswo@lexrich5.org. Please include PARENT REQUEST in the subject line of an email. Mr. Hainsworth will send a reply email to your request, indicating that it was received. Include in the letter the grade your child will be entering and the characteristics/needs that your child has that would require consideration. Please do not include a specific teachers name, areas of certification, physical characteristics, etc. Request for a specific teacher will not be considered. The purpose of the letter is to share things that we need to consider about your child. All letters must be received by Friday, May 16, 2014. Please understand that letters from prior years are not considered. Letters must be submitted annually.

Tired of packing a lunch everyday for your child?

Let us help you. Our Cafeteria is offering a special, healthy lunch option for you. We will pack a cooler bag, provided by Student Nutrition, for their lunch. On Mondays & Wednesdays their meals will consist of turkey, ham and cheese Lunchable with crackers & graham crackers. Carrot sticks with ranch dressing, a fruit, veggie, string cheese & milk will also be included. On Tuesdays & Thursdays there will be a PB&J, a fruit cup, a veggie, string cheese & milk. On Fridays we have a new cheese pizza Lunchable that we will offer along with a fruit cup, fresh carrots & milk. Students are asked to return their lunch cooler bags at the end of their lunch at the dish room window. Each morning when teachers take the lunch count to select an entree, students will be able to select one of the lunch bag meals as well. If you would like for your child to have the lunch bag meal, please have them request it at that time. Lunch bag meals will begin on Tuesday, April 29th. Please consider taking advantage of PayPams to put money in your childs lunch account. You can access PayPams via the link at www.lexrich5.org or go directly to www.paypams.com and set up an account. As always, you can just send a check to the cafeteria with your child.

District Five Foundation Launches New Look

IRMO The District Five Foundation has a new look and a shortened name. But, it continues to provide the same great support to Lexington-Richland School District Five. Formerly known as the District Five Foundation for Educational Excellence, the District Five Foundation recently completed a process aimed expanding their visibility in the community and expanding their support to students and teachers. The District Five Foundation is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization which moves quickly and independently to deliver critical funding needed to implement high-impact projects and programs. Since its inception, the Foundation has funded programs that support enhanced instruction, fed hungry students, promoted student artistic and creative talents, and provided seed funding for several science and technology programs. The Foundations vision has also led to financial support of student research projects including e-books for high school students, development of robotics teams and creation of student leadership programs in five schools. When a community comes together, nothing is impossible. Together we can expand and enhance the educational experience for District Five students, says Paula Hite, longtime chair of the Foundation Board. While we are very proud of the work we have accomplished over the last few years, we are even more committed to greater accomplishments in the future. With support of committed sponsors and volunteers, the District Five Foundations annual auction has become the primary funding source. Over the past three years, the auction raised $100,000. All of the funds raised were invested back into District Five schools. The District Superintendent, Dr. Stephen Hefner said, We are very fortunate to have a supportive community led by a great foundation. Our partnership with the Foundation provides a tremendous benefit to our students and teachers. To increase awareness and to spur community action, the District Five Foundation launched its new look including the shortened name, a new logo and a completely redesigned website. The new look is designed to make Foundation efforts more accessible to the community.
