Ukrayina, also known as Ukraine means home-land or our country. It is located in southeast Europe. It is bordered by neighboring countries and seas on all sides. On the northern part there is Belarus, the northeast there is Russia, the south there is the Black Sea, on the southwest there is Moldova and Romania, and on the west side there is Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. Seas that are nearby Ukraine are the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The majority of the country is within the Eastern European plain. Ukraine is 233,030 square miles big and it is flat, fertile, and is mainly made up of forested plains with hardly any natural boundaries. The population as of 2013 is around 44.5 million people. Kiev, Ukraine is the capital and houses most of the population. The elevation of Ukraine is about 574 feet above sea level. Ukraine is almost divided in half by the Dnipro River which empties into the Black Sea. On the west side of the river is the highest mountain peak, Hoverla, at 6,762 feet. The government in Ukraine is an Unconstitutional Republic and it is also a Unitary State. The president is Viktor Yanukovych and the prime minister is Mykola Azarov, they have been in this position since 2010. In 1991 Ukraine gained independence and has been independent since then. Ukraine still struggles with the government and the economy since they gained independence. The economy of Ukraine is stable but still struggles. Back when Ukraine was still apart of the Soviet Union, it was very important. They had industrial and agriculture power and they also changed to market economy. In 1993, two years after their independence, Ukraine held the world record for inflation.
