Procedure Ss read the article again and answer the questions under question 10a. Do this alone. In pairs Ss compare answers. Instruct Ss to read out complete sentences to make sure they are passively aware of the sentence construction. Whole class F/B. Pre-teach blocking words/phrases. Here are some words and here are the definitions. Work in pairs and match them up. Put the alphabet next to the number. Class F/B check understanding by doing CCQs for 5 difficult words: Bargain, impulse buy, expensive mistake, big ticket item, high fashion item. Tell Ss to look through the article to find words and phrases connected with shopping and add them to the table individual. Which are verbs, nouns and adjectives. Do one or two with them. In pairs compare answers.

Tell Ss they are going to carry out a survey. Ask them if they know what a survey is? They have to find out about peoples attitudes to money. Work in small groups. Look at the questions under 12a and write four more yes/no questions. Tell Ss that they need to include at least one word or phrase from exercise 11b in each question. Tell Ss they can use ideas from article or their ideas. Model one. ICQs: Are you working alone or in groups? How many more yes/no questions do you need to write? Do you need to use at least one word or phrase from the previous exercise? Now pair Ss by allocating no.s. Ss interview each other using their questions from 12a. Tell Ss to write down responses.

Ask Ss to present their findings to each other within the group using the phrases in the How tobox. ICQs. Are you going to discuss in the group or are you working alone?
