Objective: Learn basic accident and injury prevention vocabulary and recognize hazardous materials symbols. Materials: Index Cards of Target Vocabulary List 2, Cleaning Products Display, Safety Symbol 8.5X11 posters, Safety Cards, Bingo Board

1. Introductory Activity: audio-visual 3 min You Tube: Captain Safety Episode 4 - Avoid Workplace Hazards

Guide the activity to introduce the target vocabulary for accident prevention. Use their responses to create a graphic on the board of safety equipment and warnings. 10 min

4. Use the vocabulary words on List 2 that have been placed on index card and the product display. Engage students in a discussion of the Chemical Safety video they have just seen to classify the cleaning products into groups. They will place the vocabulary word card with the product that has that particular characteristic. 10min. Target Vocabulary List 2: Hazardous Materials flammable corrosive chemical toxic chemical burn oxidizer poison fumes

Use the safety symbol posters of the signs students will encounter in their own workplace. Play Name That Symbol. 5 min. 7. Review of the lesson objectives Learning Activity: Safety Card Bingo .

This can be played individually or as a group activity. Cards are cut apart. When a word is called, student place the correct card in appropriate Bingo square. Only call out the words and phrases the on vocabulary list. (see illustrations below)
