Key Learning Area: HISTORY Recent Prior Experience: Development of technologies that increase the communication of ideas between countries a lot more smoothly. The nature of popular culture and the attitudes the Australian population would have had after World War 2. Indicators of Learning for this lesson: By the end of this lesson, the students will: - Assess the influence of American Rock n Roll on post-war, Australian culture - HT5-4: Explains and analyses the causes and effects of events and developments in the modern world and Australia - Describe the impact and influence that American Rock n Roll had on Australian entertainment Assessment: - HT5-1: Explains and assesses the historical forces and factors that shaped the modern world and Australia Completion of Johnny and Elvis Worksheet which has specific questions on how Rock n Roll in Australia stemmed from America Final class discussion where students describe the impact and influence that American Rock n Roll had on Australian entertainment Lesson Topic: the reception of American Rock n Roll in Australia and its influence on Australian entertainment.

LESSON SEQUENCE
Lesson Content / INTRODUCTION The Video is to get students interested and provide basis for looking at American Rock n in Australia DEVELOPMENT Australias reaction to American Rock n culture. Looking at two sources. 10mins Teacher then brings up Trove article on Elvis with the rotating pelvis. With the teacher picking out key passages in the article, class discussion on Australias reaction to this new trend. Answering Questions like: 1. What did the Americans think of this new trend? 2. Were they concerned? 3. What did Australians Think of this new trend? 4. Why were they concerned? Teacher then would bring up the Womens Weekly Article. Teacher would then lead class discussion comparing the two articles asking question like: 1. Is the Second Article negative towards popular culture? 2. Could anyone explain why the reason for this difference? Teacher would then make it clear that the first article was written by a Western Australian state newspaper and that the second was in Womens Weekly. Teacher would then ask Students to complete Worksheet, using the knowledge from todays class as well as internet. Students would also use the articles and poster as sources from some question.
