Did you know ?

An air bag opens with the greatest force in the first 3 inches (8cms) of inflation. Anyone sitting that close to an air bag, could be seriously injured or killed.
However, those sitting at least 10 inches (25 cms) away, will make contact with the air bag only when it is almost fully inflated.

Statistics from North America

Since 1998, air bags saved the lives of over 5,000 people in North America.
Air bags + seat belt resulted in preventing 75% serious injuries and fatalities. Almost everyone, including, pregnant women &children 13 and older, are better protected in front-end collisions by air bags and seatbelts than by wearing seatbelts alone.

Believe it or not, 1 in every 6 motorists would happily have their air bags removed. Why?
Air bags have claimed lives of young children placed in rear facing child seats, in the front seat of the vehicle Worldwide Air Bags have killed about 100 people, including young children inappropriately seated in the front seat beside the driver.

How do these deaths happen?

Most Air bags inflate at the rate of about 180 miles per hour. Converted to a punch it will do so at a speed of 1/20th of a second. Force & speed, cause many people to suffer minor bruises, broken arms and worse, - Death.
Small children seated in front are suffocated by air bags. Those seated in rear-facing car seats and placed up front are crushed between the air bag and the front seat of the car.

Increase safety around air bags!

Children under age 13 should be seated in the back seat of the vehicle. Ensure that the infant and child restraint system, or the booster cushion, is suited to the childs height/weight and properly secured. Never install a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with an airbag. Never place the seat belt shoulder strap behind a childs back or under his/her arm.
