Juxtapositions Assignment

Recently, I had my home broken into along with a couple of my neighbors. A week later those individuals were caught breaking into another neighbors home. Less than a week later they were released. Now, these people broke my kitchen window, stole my property and they are not even serving time; where is the justice in that? Along the same lines, a criminal that kills someones child or tortures a woman may get sentenced with the death penalty, to be killed in the most humane way that the Justice system could find. Granted cruel and unusual punishment is not legal, but as a country our Justice System spends a lot of time and money housing and humanely treating people who have done nothing more than harm our society. Where is the justice in that?

The irony of this juxtaposition is that America is the Land of opportunity, where the sky is the limit if you are willing to work smart and hard. There needs to be a wall, built to the sky, to protect our country, but there should also be doors that allow people to come to this country and contribute and make this country greater. We need immigration reform to give more people the legal chance to enter the country.

The tragedy of 9-11 marked a new era for the United States where our country realized that we have a real and violent enemy to fight. The United States is committed to protecting American citizens from any type of attack especially on American soil. Even if it means that we need to invade another country to prevent an attack, preventing is better than picking up the pieces. We also have protestors who want our troops back home but how can we bring all the troops back if the threat is not gone, we cannot risk another 9-11 attack.

For most of the Christian world, God is love, compassion, repentance, forgiveness, atonement, and charity. Saints are extraordinary people who did great things in this world in the name of God. These Saints are proclaiming the complete opposite of a God-like message but doing it in the name of God and religion. Now, putting aside religious beliefs, accepting all people for who they are is a good value to have and showing empathy when they suffer or die is part of basic human decency.

The idea that every U.S. citizen has the right to a fair and speedy trial is part of our constitution, not just because we are Americans, but because its the humane thing to do. Every person, no matter what they did, what country they come from, or what color their skin is, should not be held or tortured in the United States unless convicted of a crime.
