Instruction

I will explain where the Native Americans lived, use a map to locate where they live. Also go into detail using textbook to describe how the native americans lived in those locations Interactive Map: Interactive Map on Smartboard depicting each aspect of the standard. It will include a game that will require class participation. Students will have to match Properties with land forms and areas that the Native Americans settled in.

Guided Practice

Students will learn what the difference between weather and climate is. I will also relate this back to the map from the day before and discuss the different climates that made up the native American settlements. Venn Diagram: Students will receive a Venn Diagram worksheet (it will be identical to one created on chart paper). As a class, the students will give the differences and similarities of climate and weather

I will discuss the process of how to conduct a short research project. I will also demonstrate by discussing one famous native American Webquest/Research scavenger hunt: The students will pick a person from the list of Native Americans provided and have a list of questions that they will need to look up on the internet or in book resources and find detailed answers 3 Minute Presentation: The students will give a 3 minute oral presentation based on the information that they gathered during their Webquest. It will include a visual aid.

I will review the process from the day before and the presentation guidelines.

I will go over the task instructions with the whole class and answer any questions they have about previous lessons or about the task We will look at different examples of brochures.

3 minute presentation: Kids will ask questions and put finishing touches on presentations from day before.

Independent Practice

Writing/Drawing Activity: The students will receive a blank paper used to draw the one of the land forms the native americans lived in. Then they will complete a short essay about the area they drew including the climate, resources available and the culture there.

Short Essay: Students will need to complete an essay that describes the differences that were previously discussed in Venn Diagram, but in more detail.

3 minute presentation: Students will give their presentations.

Students will begin on brochure and it will be completed throughout the next week.
