Eating Super-foods Since New Years has passed, many individuals are finding their own way to reach their resolution using diet plans, unnatural diet food (Special K, Slim Fast, etc.), and maybe even considering the gym. What makes these meal alternatives unnatural is the ingredients used to make them. For example, in the Slim Fast Protein Meal Milkshake Strawberries N Cream the ingredients that are being used include no real strawberries and the information can be retrieved from the Slim Fast official website. Some ingredients used for this meal alternative, that were provided from the Slim Fast website, were fat free milk, water, sugar, milk protein concentrate, gum arabic, canola oil, cellulose gel, mono and diglycerides, potassium phosphate, hydrogenated soybean oil, maltodextrin, soy lecithin, cellulose gum, natural and artificial flavors, carrageenan, sodium bicarbonate, sucralose and acesulfame potassium and what can be determined is that the company lists the natural ingredients first and then start inserting the artificial ingredients such as cellulose gel, which is a molecule used to thicken up food. In addition, by organizing the ingredients in this matter, the consumer believes it is a healthy meal alternative for their body. Instead, what if there is a way to reach fitness or health goals that is 100% natural. According to the University of Colorado, one third of women and one fourth of men in the US are on a diet (Cross, 2010). There needs to be a change in how individuals approach a diet, not a temporary health kick, but as a change in their lives.

Nowadays Americans are searching for an easy way to become healthy, which is why they rely on unreliable meal plans that will be mentioned later on. So I believe that press juicing is the most efficient way to consume the daily vegetables and fruits recommended from doctors. It is as simple as learning the alphabet and the best part is how there are no regulations. This is the individuals judgment and can press juice any fruits and veggies that he or she enjoys eating. What Is Juicing To begin, it would be a great idea to introduce what exactly press juicing is. Press juicing is exactly what it sounds like; pick any fruits or vegetables and use a juicing machine to make a nutritious and organic juice. The juice that is made can be consumed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and if feeling daring you can consume for all three meals and make some for a snack even. It is extremely important for an individual to understand their own health goals because someone who is striving to lose weight needs a different set of juices that someone who just wants to maintain their health. Overall the best foods to juice are super-foods, which include beets, carrots, celery, apples, kale and much more. The main point to get from this is to juice foods you would not normally choose to eat because one glass a day keeps the doctors away. Press juicing has been around for years and it is amazing how many individuals are just now joining this beneficial bandwagon. Juicing Plan Usually many will use a juicing plan temporarily to cleanse their body, sort of pressing the reset button. The plan includes press juicing fruits and vegetables, usually three times a day as their meals for a minimum of ten days, if he or she desires, they can continue this route for two months. In other cases, individuals use this plan to create a healthier balance in their diet. What ever the motivation may be, this plan is proven to be effective. In a documentary, I

Meats contain protein, fats, and minerals needed in the body daily. However, these same proteins and minerals can be consumed through other foods such as nuts and seeds, even beans contain these proteins needed. Back to my point that doctors may not agree with press juicing, when an individual is juicing he or she does not need to neglect other non-animal products that can give them the nutrients that these doctors recommend.

recently viewed on Netflix, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead the individual, Joe Cross, is being filmed for a period of two months with only fruits and vegetables consumed in his diet, which had extraordinary results. This man lost over eighty-two pounds after the juice cleansing and now maintains his weight with a plant based diet and daily exercise. To begin, a juicer must be purchased, which is a great investment because even if the juicing plan does not suit the consumer, they can still make organic orange juice or apple juice with it, it is a versatile machine. The average price for a juicing machine, according to consumerreports.org, varies from $14.99 to $200, depending on the quality and brand of the product. After a juicer has been purchased, the next step would be to create a goal of how long the juicing will last. Every individual is different, which is why this diet is convenient because if decided to do this for five days or two months, there will be a difference in what he or she will crave to eat. This will then give them results that wont disappoint, unlike those unreliable diets being sold on television nowadays such as the Jenny Craig diet plan. With this diet plan, prepackaged meals are mailed to the consumers doorstep, which would be the first problem. Usually prepackaged meals have unnecessary ingredients like the Slim Fast shakes that were mentioned previously; instead the consumer can cook a fresh organic meal with familiar ingredients. The American society should focus on nutrition education instead of looking for an easy alternative to lose weight; the main goal should be to become a healthy nation not to lose pounds. In addition, these prepackaged meal plans that claim to help individuals lose weight are also unreliable because of the before and after photos used to manipulate people to buy the product in the first place. We live in the year 2014 and technology has developed rapidly including photo-shop, which is a software used to edit images. How will the consumer know these before and after pictures are reliable if a photo-shop software could have been used to

Instead of spending countless money on prepackaged meals and living in doubt that it may not even work, just reprogram the body to crave fruits and vegetables by juicing them and drinking this 100% guarantee healthy diet on a daily bases. How Juicing Benefits The Individual Drinking your vegetables instead of eating them whole is believed to be better in the sense that it is easier for those nutrients to work into your system, according to Joe Cross. However others, such as Anna Nguyen, will disagree and say that the individual is not getting all the potential nutrients that these super foods can give someone. Whether this is true, there are still beneficial effects that come from juicing fruits and vegetables. Since this diet requires to intake 100% of fruits and vegetables, it makes a person feel fuller for longer since healthy calories are being consumed in a higher intake. Eating a big bowl of fruits and vegetables has the equivalent calories of a burger with fries and a soda; the difference would be which meal will keep someone fuller for longer. This is because fruits and vegetables do not contain empty calories like fries or a burger has. When eating fast food and processed food, empty calories are being eaten because that is all that the body is receiving, calories, there is not much nutrients involved for fast food to be considered healthy. With the idea that incorporating only fruits and vegetables in a diet to stay fuller longer, this will also give the consumer much more energy than ever felt in their adulthood. This is because fruits and vegetables are super foods that contain micronutrients. Micronutrients can be found in super foods because they maintain a high count of nutrition. Super foods include beets, carrots, celery, apples, kale, spinach, and the list can go on. Micronutrients help fight off diseases that can potentially become chronic, such as Joe Cross case when he suffered from

Chronic Urticaria. Chronic Urticaria is a skin disease that can be triggered by something as simple as a handshake, according to Joe Cross from Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Without micronutrients, the cells will not be strong and healthy to fight off infections and the body will not have that energy that was mentioned earlier. Even though this plan sounds 100% nutritious, doctors may believe that this is unhealthy because animal products are not being consumed. Why You Should Care Everyone is impacted by this obesity epidemic happening today in America because, although you yourself may not be overweight, you may know someone you care about and want to help him or her better his or her life. Also, anyone can potentially become overweight without the knowledge of what is nutrition or what we should be consuming. Right now 68.8% of adults are overweight or obese in the United States and out of that percentage 35.7% are flat out obese, according to the Food Research and Auction Center. You may know someone who is overweight and has tried to lose that extra weight with those overrated diet plans being advertised on television, like Jenny Craig. Within those commercials there are models included sharing their weight drop and how the plan works, but every individual is different. So how amazing would it feel if you educate that obese co-worker, aunt, uncle, cousin, whomever, with the idea that just by consuming more fruits and vegetables through a drink will give them results

by reprogramming their body to only crave plant based foods and keep the pounds off for the rest of their lives; not to mention a healthier longer life. Conclusion Now, juicing for all three meals would not be a recommended plan to follow for the rest of your life, because like mentioned before, when juicing your super foods you are extracting some nutrients, like the outer skin of an apple for example. However, by consuming one cup of your pressed veggie and fruit juice, you are consuming probably more nutritional calories than you ever have throughout your whole life. Personally, I consume one cup every morning, and it is just fun experimenting with different ingredients and figuring out what I like that most. I currently have two favorites, one is more of a meal juice and the other is more of a snack. The more meal-based juice contains two carrots, two green apples, and a hand full of purple grapes. The fruits sweeten the drink so it is like the carrots are not even there! The other drink that seems like more of a snack is made of strawberries, an orange, pineapple, and a stick or two of celery. Like I said before it is all about experimentation of what you enjoy and what will make your skin crawl. For example, my least favorite juice would be what is known as the Mean Green Juice. This juice contains, a bunch of kale, one cucumber, a green apple, juice of half a lemon, and a tiny bit of ginger. This is probably the worst one I make but I do not drink it everyday, it is a once an a while juice because it is very healthy; but I do have to pinch my nose to be able to drink it. The most beneficial aspect about the juice cleanse is that it is all about you! The diet is simply about the individual, it is not a general plan created for just anyone to try and have an unfortunate error with it, and a juice a day will keep the pounds away. Up to twothirds of those on a diet regain more weight than when they started (University of California, Los Angela, 2012), this is because individuals do not understand the value of nutrition and how
