Lesson Plan

The objectives of this lesson: 1. Effectively teach students the proper use for grammar. 2. Students should be able to understand the use of grammar by the end of class. 3. Students should begin brainstorming ideas for the poster project they need to create.

Procedure

Anticipatory set: Review what was discussed during the previous class regarding grammar usage. 1. T: Discuss with students the different kinds of grammar and how it is used in sentences. The teacher should be asking the students questions in order to get an idea of how well they are following along. S: Students should be responding and giving feedback to the teacher. 2. T: The teacher will further discuss grammar usage by explaining the smart board activity created for them. S: Students will then begin to work together and solve the questions. The activity created for the students through smart board is grammar jeopardy. Students will be divided in to two teams and must accurately answer questions in order to get points. The students will be able to write down their points on the smart board.

3. T: Once the exercise is done, the teacher must begin to pass out the rubric for an upcoming project. The teacher must explain in detail what the expectations are. S: Students are to listen to the teacher and also ask questions if they are confused about the project. For the next week, students will be given time in class to work on a project that they will have to present in front of their peers. The project will consist of a small oral presentation and a poster that they should work on during class and at home as well. Students must be able to create and present a poster for up to five minutes discussing different examples of grammar placement. They must be able to explain the different grammar used in sentences such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns. The poster must include these forms of grammar, what they mean, how they are applied in sentences with at least three examples. 4. T: Teacher will then have students brainstorm their ideas for the upcoming project. They will need to begin a rough draft of the different ideas they have for the project. S: Sit at desks and contemplate different ideas for project. They will then need to write these ideas down as a rough draft. 5. Closure: T: Give students exit slips that they are required to bring back in the morning. The students must answer the question How can understanding grammar help you communicate with other people? S: Take slips and answer them when they return home. They are to bring the slips back the following class. 6. If Time: Begin to lecture on more complex grammatical sentences that they will start to learn about next class. S: Listen to lecture and ask any questions that may arise.
