Observation & Evaluations: Whats the difference?

Teacher Observations
What Should I Expect?

Keep copies of all observations

Observation and evaluations are often confused and thought to be the same. Although they are quite similar, they are very different. In Weldon City Schools, the district uses both observation and evaluations, also known as walk through. Both forms are used to assess teacher performance and delivery. The difference between the two is the length. Observations require a minimum of 45 minutes whereas evaluations last approximately 20 minutes. You should receive feedback from both.

This should include but limited to, lesson plans, websites addresses, handouts, etc. Make the administrator aware of your concerns (student behavior, difficulty with delivery method, or something you would like the administror to observe. Document suggestions. Observation Continue instruction as normal. The observer may walk around asking students questions and taking notes. Dont let this scare you. Post Conference After the observation, you should engage in a conversation with the observer regarding what you did well and items you need to improve upon. Try not to take it personal. Ask for tips to improve. Inquire about seeing veteran teachers engage and deliver information. Probe for deeper understanding.

What is the purpose of evaluations & observations?
