RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Matthew Wallace OBHR 4360 04/08/2014

Introduction Every day in the workplace employees will waste time one way or another and in the age of the internet this is more prevalent than ever. The price of technology in the workplace is how easy it is to be led astray from the task at hand. The purpose of this study is to try and not only limit employees wasting time on the internet, but to make it more productive. The test will measure how much time employees spend on non-productive websites/programs and what positive affects mind games and social competitions have on the workplace.

Statement of Problem The purpose of this experimental study will be to test the theory of workplace complacency that leads to employees wasting time on the internet by comparing employees without internet, to those with mind games and those without any restrictions on the internet. The independent variables will be employees with no internet or mind games. The dependent variable will be defined as employees with mind games instead of internet, and the control will be defined as employees with internet with no restrictions.

Research Questions 1. How much time does an employee waste on the internet? 2. Can mind games be productive in the workplace? 3. Can competitive games create a positive environment in and outside the workplace? 4. Why do employees waste time on the internet?

Methodology This experiment will be using a Quantitative method in order to achieve results. The participants are all employees in the same company that will be randomly assigned into three different groups. The independent variable will be a group of employees with no internet or mind games to play. The dependent variable will be a group of employees with mind games and internet and the control will be a group of employees with internet and no mind games.
