These programs are an opportunity for our children to be immersed in Jewish learning through fun, dynamic, hands-on activities and experiences. Examples of chugim are krav maga and Israeli dancing.

Parents are invited to join our sixth grade students for an informative lesson about tefillin by Rabbi Joseph Krakoff, Rabbi Aaron Starr, and Rabbi Levi Kagan of Oak Park. Learners will create their own practice set of tefillin.

Congregation Shaarey Zedek www.shaareyzedek.org Adult Programs Rabbi Joseph Krakoff, Archbishop Allen Vigneron and Rochelle Riley will offer introductory remarks at the Community Chorus of Detroit performance of the Verdi Requiem. 9844 Woodward Avenue, Detroit

The chorus will join forces with members of three regional choirs totaling 175 singers, with full orchestra, and Metropolitan Opera soloists. This tour-de-force concert will commemorate the 16 performances of the Requiem by the prisoners at the Terezin concentration camp in WWII, with special guests and moving programmatic elements. 21800 Greenfield, OakPark Forgotten Harvest rescues 45.5 million pounds of surplus, prepared and perishable food each year, from more than 450 sources. Food which would otherwise go to waste is delivered to emergency providers in the Metro Detroit area. CSZ members are needed to pack boxes for distribution to those in need. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome, if accompanied by an adult. Please contact Micki Grossman at grandmic@yahoo.com. Mentor Connection, a nonsectarian program of Jewish Family Service, is looking for adult volunteers (ages 18 and older) willing to give a child individual attention 2-4 hours twice a month. Mentor/ mentees are matched on interests, personality types and geographic location. DONATE TO HEART 2 HART DETROIT


This charitable group provides and distributes food, clothing, toiletries and helpful information to men and women living on the streets or in shelters in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Donations of travel size personal items are in demand, and will be accepted at collection bins in the Synagogue's main lobby and in the lobby of the administrative oces.

On the Cover: What is this?


This is one section of a mosaic that was created in 2001 by Seventh Grade students and their families, under the direction of Dani Katsir and Gail Rosenbloom Kaplan. This colorful decoration hangs on the wall inside the entrance by the administrative offices. If you come to Religious School, or Thrilling Thursdays, you pass this each week as you go down the stairs!
