Princess Bessey 11. 4 . 13 5th Hour The Odyssey Essay Odysseus is a true Hero. In The Odyssey by Homer , Odysseus portrays heroic qualities. Such as intelligence, courage and immense amounts of strength. His most heroic acts were with the cyclops, Scylla and Charybdis, and with the suitors. First, Odysseus was very heroic in facing the cyclops with his crew. First of all, Odysseus and his crew shaped a wooden stake to stab the cyclops in the eye and blinded him, which is very heroic. He is risking his and his crews lives. Second, Odysseus shows loads of intelligence by telling the cyclops his name was nohbdy. It shows his intelligence because by telling the cyclops his name was nohbdy, Odysseuss name would remain anonymous. Odysseus is also very smart and thinks ahead of time. Third Odysseus is very bold. Before Odysseus and his crew, Odysseus and his crew were about to leave were about to leave, Odysseus yells to the cyclops If I could take your life I would and take your time away and hurl you down to hell (1058). Odysseus was very courageous there because the cyclops is much bigger than Odysseus. The cyclops couldve very easily killed odysseus in a heartbeat. Therefore odysseus shows great heroic qualities in the cyclops. Second, Odysseus shows he was very heroic with Scylla and Charybdis. First, Odysseus was very caring for his men when six of them were eaten by Scylla. That incident drove him to keep the rest of his men alive. Secondly Odysseus was very smart to think of a plan in such little time. He passed through Scylla instead of going on the other side to Charybdis. He would rather have six of his men die than his whole crew. Lastly, Odysseus was quick on his feet when he was facing Scylla. Odysseus and

his crew worked fast to accomplish the goal of leaving Scylla and sailing back home to Ithica where their families were. Overall odysseus true heroic qualities have shown at Scylla and Charybdis. Lastly, Odysseus was most heroic in facing the suitors. First Odysseus is courageous when he shot Antinous. Antinous was the enemy of Odysseus and the worst of the suitors. Which destroyed Odysseuss home and Odysseus wanted to get payback. Second Odysseus wanted to show off his strength by stringing his bow. He also showed his strength by shooting the arrow through the twelve axe holes. Lastly Odysseus was very bold to shoot and kill a lot of the suitors that ruined his home, especially the ones that fondled with his maids and tried to take his wife away for themselves. Odysseuss hero like qualities showed most when he defeated the suitors. In conclusion, Odysseus has shown his heroic qualities. These include being courageous, intelligent, and bold. Odysseus showed most of his heroic qualities in the cyclops, defeating the suitors, and with Scylla and Charybdis. Odysseus is truly one of the greatest heroes in history.
