Post-Practicum 1.

Do you think four weeks of practicum is enough for you to apply and understand everything you have learnt in your lectures? Listening and speaking: it is sufficient as the course teach me clearly how to teach listening and speaking. I was able to apply what I have learnt in the practicum. Reading: It is not sufficient as I cannot practice what I have learnt in the course. It is hard to do silent reading with a year 3 pupils in this school. They tend to read out loud every time I asked them to read silently. Therefore, I need to find out how to conduct a silent reading session. Writing: Probably writing is not sufficient as it is difficult to teach them to write. If it is reading for content, it is hard to ensure that they have understood the content. Therefore, it is related to the reading part. Grammar: It is not easy to teach grammar to the young learners. To teach grammar, it is simpler to teach in contextual. However, the pupils might do not get what they are learning. What I can say is I still need to find ways to teach grammar, and let them know what they are learning. Language Arts: It is sufficient, however, it is difficult to build the learning objectives using SMART concept. 2. How can the lecturers prepare you for practicum? Things you wished your lecturer had told you? I wish that we will have a course on building interesting and useful teaching aids. I am having a hard time in producing a creative teaching aid. 3. Did your supervisory teacher helped you with your teaching and learning in the school? How? My supervisory teacher has a lot of experience in teaching English. That person has many interesting way to make English fun. She helped me to see how to teach English interestingly. However, her personality is completely different, which makes we have different kind of way of thinking. 4. Were the lecturers who observed you helped you and discussed with your teaching problems and provided on constructive solutions. Yes, every time my lecturer came, we will discuss on the problems, how to solve it and how to make it more interesting. 5. What are some of your problems you faced while undergoing your practicum? How did you solve them? The pupils in my class is very individualistic. Therefore, I tried to use group work in every lesson plan. To ensure everyone in the group contribute to the group work, I will make sure the task given is sufficient to every members of the group. For example, during the practice stage of writing lesson, I will make sure every person will have to write at least one sentence and they will take turn. 6. What did you enjoy most while doing your practicum? I love when the pupils try to communicate the basic sentences in English to me. Miss Fa, I am sorry because I am late. This is the happiest moment for me when they use the language. 7. Overall the lessons I learnt while doing my practicum. I have learnt that I must create my own personality in becoming an English teacher. It is not necessary for me to be fierce all the time. I want the pupils to learn English to the maximum, without feel scared to the teacher.
