Pump Stations
Pump sewage to a main sewer. If a main drain is available connection must be made. Connection via gravity drainage system, or by way of a pumping station if the on site levels dictate this. Available in single or twin pump options depending upon numberhouses/people served.

Treatment Plants
If no main sewer is available the recommended solution is to utilise a sewage treatment plant. Packaged sewage treatment plants, like Kingspans Entec Biotec range, are available from small single house units to large multi staged units for large housing estates or hotels. Packaged sewage treatment plants fully treat sewage to allow the treated water to be released into a watercourse or soakaway system

Septic Tanks
Due to the superiority of the packaged sewage treatment plants, septic tanks are not the recommended option for 'off-mains' drainage schemes. If specified Kingspan Environmental/Drain Center Civils can supply septic tanks. The Alpha range carries the BBA certification with the protection of the MK1 safety cover and frame. Settled sewage from septic tanks must be discharged to a soakaway system away from any watercourse.

Cesspool
Cesspools are large holding tanks used for sites where no mains connection, or suitable watercourse or ground conditions are available. All Cesspools are BBA certified Cesspools are more commonly used for temporary applications like building sites or show grounds. Silage tanks are also available and have a chemically resistant lining to enable storage of silage or chemical toilet waste.

Choosing the Correct System
When a Pump Station should be used The law states the following: A. If you can reach the main sewage system by gravity, you must do so. B. If you can access the main sewage system by using a pump station, this must be your next option. If neither A or B apply you should recommend a Kingspan Treatment Plant

What is being pumped? (Untreated domestic sewage or treated water) What distance do you need the station to pump? What distance does the waste need to be pumped? Is the inlet pipe requirement 110mm or 160mm? What is the anticipated inlet drain invert? How high do you need the waste to be pumped?

Septic Tanks What do they do?
It settles the solids in the sewage and then releases the effluent to a drainage field where biological breakdown takes place. Septic Tanks available in GRP or Rotomoulded designs. How does this work? Septic Tanks receive crude sewage, which is a mixture of solids and liquids. Kingspans Entec Alpha Tank uses a three-stage upward flow route, designed to maximise separation, minimise turbulence and provide a low flow discharge zone. All three stages are linked hydraulically. Effluent Dispersal Ground conditions are critical to the performance of a septic tank installation and some areas are unsuitable. Effluent cannot be discharged direct to a watercourse.Where water table & the nature of the soil allow satisfactory absorption, dispersal should be by means of a sub-surface irrigation system.

Ezy-drain
The Ezy-Drain comprises of sections of twin wall perforated plastic pipe, surrounded by a synthetic aggregate, wrapped in polyethylene netting. Each 3-metre section is simply joined together by the use of click-fit connectors, protected by a preformed collar. The synthentic aggregate is manufactured from recycled expanded polystyrene, engineered to deliver optimum performance while consistently retaining its form.

Large Capacity Treatment Plants

A Cesspool provides a reliable solution, where the discharge of treated effluent is not permissible due to unsuitable ground conditions, or where infrequent or seasonal use would prevent the successful functioning of a Biotec packaged treatment plant. For single dwellings (2 residents only) 18180 litres (4000 gallons) is the minimum allowable capacity. The size should be increased by 6800 litres (6.8m2) for each additional user.

Silage Tanks
Manufactured using specific chemically resistant resins, these tanks are one-piece factory sealed and tested units of the same dimensions as cesspools. Delivered direct to the farm they can be off-loaded using ordinary farm handling equipment and usually installed within a day. What do Cesspools and Silage Tanks do? It stores the effluent until it is tankered away.
