December 2012

CUMC Kids Group

Dear Parent, As you know, we are seeking to build a positive Childrens Ministry here at Central UMC. Many activities are being planned as you will see in this new Childrens Newsletter. You are cordially invited to be a part of this ministry by your participation, and also by offering suggestions for future programs. You can contact me though email (connie@mtairycentralumc.us), by calling (336-786-0000), or on Facebook. Advent is rapidly approaching, and many activities are planned. Elsewhere in this Newsletter, you will see a calendar of Activities for December. Some of the Highlights of the activities are: making ornaments to give out to the congregation-December 2&9, Hayride at Tanglewood on December 7, White Christmas Rehearsal on December 15 with White Christmas being on December 16, and Caroling and Snack Time on December 23. I look forward to seeing you at each of these activities. As you are probably already aware, the Children have begun collecting food for Yokefellow, and we are working on scheduling a fieldtrip to Yokefellow soon. You will be hearing more about this. We will also be encouraging you to adopt one or more angels to help with Salvation Army Christmas Cheer. As you can see, many good activities are planned for you. On the horizon, we are working to restart TWEEN TIME in January. This will be every other Sunday. Parents, we will need help with Snack Dinner and counselors. More details are forthcoming. I want to wish you and your family a most blessed Christmas this year. Let us celebrate the birth of Christ joyfully together. Blessings to You! Connie

Giving Back
The children have decided to sponsor a child from the Salvation Army Angel Trees with their Sunday school classes this Christmas. Other angels to sponsor will be on a tree located in the foyer. Please help those families in our community that are in need this Christmas.

The Reason for the Season

One of the most beloved Christmas programs of all time is "A Charlie Brown Christmas." At one point, Charlie Brown becomes frustrated with all the commercialization of Christmas and wonders aloud if that is what Christmas is all about. The lights then focus on Linus, who solemnly begins a quotation of Luke 2. When he is finished, he turns quietly to his friend and says, "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:8-14 KJV)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill to men. Luke 2:14
