Updates and New Features
New Features
Burden Relief
The Burden Relief analysis has had a major overhaul. The calculation has been
extended to include the quantity of explosive in the tested holes, separate charges in
the same hole can now be excluded, and the results can now be displayed in a chart of
mass vs time with a link to the blast holes.
The burden relief analysis tests every hole when it detonates to checks if there are
sufficient holes, within a maximum distance of the tested hole that detonate at a
minimum time before the hole, to create a free face for the tested hole. The test
now includes an option to check that there is sufficient explosive in the holes, on
the basis that if there is not enough explosive to move the rock, then the new free
face will not be created. The explosive mass can be checked as a mass per charge
or the total charge mass fired before the hole.
Where a blast hole has multiple, separated charges (i.e. with stemming between
the charges), the analysis previously included these charges in the distance/time
calculation. However, this could be misinterpreted in the results if it was set up to
test other holes but the extra charges and shorter distances for charges in the same
hole are not taken into account. The standard calculation now ignores separate
charges within the same hole, or these charges can be included by activating a
check box on the parameters dialog.
The final part of the burden relief is new chart of charge vs time (similar to the
MIC analysis), with link from a selected bar to the blast hole at that detonation
time. The link also highlights the holes that contributed to the result at the linked
hole, in a different colour. The graph data and the graph image can be copied to
any external application.
Hole Contours
This is a new analysis in 2DBench. It is similar to the Contour function in 2DView,
but provides more options and more values to contour. This analysis is included in
this release of 2DBench as a draft version, and is available to all current users of
2DBench, JKBench and J KBench+. Later releases will be controlled by a specific
Contour license, which is currently provided to all users of 2DView, and will be
added to 2DBench with an increase in the annual fee for Support and Maintenance.
This initial version has two types of contours available. The final version will have
three types of contour, with an additional sub-type for Line contours.
Hole: the contour pattern is displayed as colour-filled circle on each blast hole,
similar to the Burden Relief analysis.
Line: the contour pattern is displayed as lines, with the blast holes as the control
points. There are two sub-types, both similar to the two options for detonation
contours.
o Linear: the blast holes are used as the vertices of the minimum triangles
between holes, and the contour lines are located between the holes
proportional to the values at the holes.
o Inverse Distance: a grid of points is created across the blast and the values at
the points are calculated according to their inverse distance from the blast
holes. The contour lines are plotted between these points.
This sub-type will be available in the final version.
Fill: the contour pattern is displayed as points, coloured according to the contour
scale, similar to the Energy Distribution and Damage analyses.
This contour type will be available in the final version.
Please note that not all contour values can be calculated in this draft version, even
though it may be included in the selection lists. In general, many of the values that
are based on multiple items in a hole (for example, total explosive length per hole),
cannot be calculated yet.
One contour pattern for each of Hole and Line (Linear) contours can be created in this
version, but both can be displayed at the same time. This allows for relationships
between different values to be calculated as either hole or line types and displayed
together for comparison.
The final version will be able to calculate multiple contour patterns in each type and
display a selected contour from each type together on the blast.
Enhancements
Enhancements are modifications or additions to existing features that provide some
extra functionality in the program.
A new option in the Loading Decks dialog, under Quantity, to load a deck as a
number of cartridges. This option is only available when a cartridge material has
been selected in the Material list. The cartridge must be defined in the stocks
database, so it is not possible to access this option by converting a bulk explosive
to a cartridge by entering a diameter and length.
In the parameters dialog for Loading Decks, the Series name and Material name
can now be entered manually, to create a custom explosive or non-explosive. This
is already possible in Downhole and Surface delays, but was not enabled for
Decks.
The feature to view a picture linked to a stock item has been changed to view any
document, including a web address. The button labeled [View Document]on the
parameter dialogs for Loading Decks, Downhole Delays and Surface Delays will
open a linked document in the associated application.
A distance parameter has been added to the Line mode in Detonation Contours, to
speed up calculation. By default, the value is set to 3 times the maximum of the
defined burden or spacing, but any value can be entered. The parameter is used to
exclude triangle sides during the initial calculation if they are longer than the
specified distance. This also excludes some triangle sides that might have
produced misleading results, such as between holes in a blast that are a long
distance apart with no other holes between.
There have been some minor changes to text from the export / save / copy
functions. This have been done to match the text from the new export text
function in J KBMS, and to clear up some potential confusion. The changes could
affect any reporting applications that search for specific text in the exported data
files. If this occurs, please contact Soft-Blast for further assistance.
The ignition hole ID number has been added to data files created from export /
copy. This will allow reporting applications to easily identify the initiation point.
When the program starts, the user will be warned if the license will expire soon.
For an annual or long term license, the message will appear 30 days before the
expire date or when the number of remaining g uses is less than 25%. The details
for periodic licenses are shown on >Help >About.
The tab orders on several forms have been corrected, so that pressing the [Tab]
key will cycle through the data entry fields and buttons in a logical sequence.
All values for lengths, areas and masses have been modified to 3 decimal places,
and all times to 2 decimal places.
There are several minor changes to some messages.
Fixes
The following items have been fixed..
In Area mode, the Line Cut tool would not copy a portion of a polygon with only
one vertex included in the cut section. Cutting single lines or polygons with
multiple vertices between the end points was unaffected.
In some cases, the program could crash if >Edit >Undo was selected while the
Hook was active.
When loading a deck of cartridges, the number of cartridges was not calculated
correctly for defined length or mass due to a round-off error.
The bench level of marked nodes could not be changed globally from the Hole
Parameters dialog.
The maximize button on several forms has been disabled.
Selecting the Lilly curve in the Kuz-Ram fragmentation analysis could cause the
program to crash.
Desi gn Importer
The Design Importer program has been upgraded to give more options for multiple
file formats, and to force the correct calculation of hole lengths in some cases.
The Design Importer program used the extension of the selected file name to
automatically load the format specification used in the program. the specification
are stored in the file Import.ini. However, if different formats were required for
files with the same extension, only the specification for the first one found in the
.ini file was loaded.
To correct this, a drop-down list of all specifications in the .ini file is provided on
the first screen of the program, with a user-defined comment to describe to format.
The specification is created in the same manner as before, after the details have
been confirmed and the import has been started, by entering a name and
description on the last screen.
In addition, after a specification has been selected on the first screen, it is not
necessary to go though all of the other screen to finish the procedure. The import
can be started immediately by clicking the [Finish][ button on the first screen.
Previously, if importing data that included only a collar level for each hole, the
holes were with the length defined on the final parameters screen. If the collar
levels were different, then the toe level of each hole would also be different,
because a single length was used for each hole. The length would override any
floor level entered in the parameters. Now, the floor level can be forced instead of
the hole length with an option on the final parameters screen. This allows holes to
be imported as only collar coordinates, and the correct hole length to a target floor
level is calculated during the import process.
