Child and Adolescent Development

1. In the light of researchers on human development, which of the two approaches is closer to the
truth traditional or lifespan? Why?
- I think between the two approaches (traditional and lifespan), lifespan approach is much
closer to the truth because it states that human development is a lifelong process.
Individuals have the potential for development all through out their lifespan. As an
individual ages, the decline is only in growth but the development (mental, moral,
sociological, spiritual) continues. All the experiences which an individual had gone through
also add to the development.
2. Reflect on your early childhood, middle childhood & late childhood days. Were you able to
acuire the development tas!s e"pected of early, middle, late childhood and adolescence? What
facilitated your acuisitions of the ability to perform such tas!s?
-es, I think I have ac!uired the developmental tasks from my early, middle and late
childhood days. At my early childhood I think I was able to mastered bodily functions like
walking, eating, playing and getting ready for school. At middle childhood I was able to
read, write and do other school stuff necessary for development and I have already mingled
with others my age. And at late childhood I was able to ad"ust to the physical world. At this
stage, achievement is really important. #he help from my parents, teachers, peers and
other aspects (like the environment) contributed much to these ac!uisitions of
developmental tasks.
#. $aving mastered the developmental tas!s of early, middle, late childhood and adolescence,
reflect on what you should do as a teacher to facilitate your students% acuisition of these
developmental tas!s.
- $chool readiness is a state at which all children arrive when they can respond
appropriately to the environment of the school. #hey begin to perform tasks which are
necessary for learning more complex such in the future. As a teacher, he%she should have
direct conversations with the children and make daily activities meaningful. A teacher
should make the classroom environment nurturing, supportive and successful for all
students and to be able to attain these, a teacher may need to make various adaptations to
the classroom environment.
