Objectives:
TSW understand how objects/technology can enhance the volume of our
voices.
TSW learn the difference between loud and soft dynamics.
TSW learn the musical terms: Forte (f) and Piano (p)
TSW work in a group setting

Lesson Plan:
Introduction (Anticipatory Set/Motivation):
1. Ask students to raise their hand if they have ever been to/seen a football game?
2. Discuss what types of things do they see at football games, and then transition into PowerPoint slide
that has megaphones on it.

Process:
1. Have students walk one row at a time to receive their pre-made megaphones, and walk
back to their seat.
2. Show the students how to turn their megaphones off when the teacher is speaking.
3. Then demonstrate by turning the megaphone on, and demonstrate how a megaphone
can make ones voice louder.
4. Write and define forte on the Smartboard.
(have pre-made Forte and piano cards)
5. Tell the class that, when the megaphone is away from our mouths our voice is at an f
(forte).
6. Write and define p (piano) on the Smartboard.
7. Now, by whispering, tell them that when the megaphone is away from their mouths they
have a softer voice.
8. Have students make a seated circle, and put their megaphones on the floor in front of
them.
9. Show students the ball and bounce it to a student on the opposite side of the circle.
10. Explain to the students that when you pass the ball you have to say the students name
you are passing to.
11. Explain to the students that when the instructor is holding up the piano card they will
not use their megaphones when they are passing the ball.
Tell them the opposite when the instructor holds up the forte card.
12. Allow all students to get a chance to pass the ball to another student.
13. Review what p and f stand for at the end of the class.

Accommodations:
1. In the case of a hearing impaired child the entire class could learn the sings for
loud and soft.
2. The instructor could write the translation of loud and soft in various languages,
and have the kids try to pronounce each translation.

Assessment/Evaluation:
1. The instructor will evaluate which students can control their voice, and can
listen to see which dynamic level they need to use.
2. If students cannot keep to themselves they will be asked to sit in the Mush
Pile, and will have to give their megaphone to the instructor.

Rationale: Students will properly use their
voices in a loud and soft vocal activity using
paper megaphones.
TEKS Achieved:

MUSKB3: Identify similarities
between music and other subjects.

MUSKb4: Loud/Soft dynamics.

E/LAK21B: Follow oral instructions
involving actions.
