Intro to the Harp and Bowl Model

I. WHAT IS INTERCESSION
The Beauty of God inspires deep !reathin" prayer#$ % a drea&#
Prayer is an exchange of romance. We set our hearts and thoughts upon Gods. He speaks
to us and it moves our hearts. When we speak back to God in agreement with Him, trust
is fortified and His heart is moved by our voluntary response of love.
God desires to establish and then deepen relationship with us. He desires intimacy with
us. He wants us to know the values of His heart and more so, to feel the very emotions of
His heart. rom that revelation, He wants to hear us cry out for the longings of His heart
to come to pass. His longings become our longings. !ts partnership at the most intimate
level possible. We begin to feel and do what God feels and does all for His Glory.
!ntercession is forged in intimacy

II. WHAT IS HARP AND BOWL?
Harp and -owl is the name of the prayer model that the !nternational House of Prayer in
4ansas 0ity developed to serve their teams in sustaining night and day worship and
intercession.
". !t is a model inspired by the &56, worship6filled prayer that sustained the
'avidic #abernacle and named for the fusion of worship and intercession
described in 7evelation 89,6+:

". Dsing music, the spoken word and other forms of art, the Harp and -owl
model helps engage the entire room in meeting with God over the issues
of His heart and ours.
5. !n this model, trained teams of musicians and singers begin each
set with worship, eventually moving toward spontaneous songs
and singing/praying the scriptures of focus for the session.
8. !nterspersed are spoken prayers launched from scripture and
accompanied by a musical response of agreement. Within these
movements, a variety of opportunities for the entire room to
engage are presented. #his structure cycles throughout a two6
hour blockE carrying intercession with remarkable ease.
". We believe there is wisdom to employing the model. 7emarkably,
although it is $uite structured, it provides a great deal of freedom for
artistic and prophetic expression while remaining grounded in scripture.

B. !t serves as ?a singing seminary? because it is actually the Word
of God =.cripture> that is being prayed and sung. Prayer is sung
or spoken along with music. #he single focus is not the singers or
the musicians, or the room filled with interceding saints but the
%ne being worshiped in such a setting.
,. !t serves corporate prayer and makes for an accessible, powerful,
engaging encounter with God.
;. !ts an easily reproducible model that9
a. 1asily sustains night and day prayer,
b. 1ngages all ages and all backgrounds, and

incorporating its structure while remaining true to the worshipful
expressions they most deeply relate to God
++. !mmersion in the scriptures as the primary language of worship
and prayer. Harp and -owl was designed to be a fusion of
worship and prayer employing and submitting to the scripture of
the %ld and Few #estament as the foundation for both. !n other

!t sustains Fight and 'ay intercession through en@oyable prayer. #he <ord is creative and
He invites us to @oyfully engage in agreement over His creation. Harp and -owl supports
the fusion of creativity, @oy and agreement.
"dditionally, and $uite practically, Harp and -owl provides both a roadmap and the rules
of the road so people understand where they are going within the context of a communal
concert of prayer, how they are getting there and who has the right of way when roles
intersect.

IV. EXPRESSIONS OF HARP & BOWL
". "postolic !ntercession9 employs the transcribed prayers of the Few
#estament prayed by Paul, Peter, *ohn to intercede on behalf of the saints.
#hey are prayers 2for3 the <ords purposes and intentions for !srael and
the 0hurch. 2or3 means that they are not, primarily, statements 2against3
something or someone but rather are seminal, vision6casting prayers to see
0hrist formed in believers and to assist the missionaries in communicating
the Gospel of the 4ing and His 4ingdom. #he apostolic prayers help Harp
and -owl teams develop language that facilitates agreement in prayer with
the whole room. "greement is a fundamental element of effective prayer.
,
IHOP-LI: The Ark House of Prayer
Intro to the Harp and Bowl Model
-. Worship With the Word9 facilitates scriptural immersion in the larger
concepts of Gods story. #here are repetitive ideas in scripture that are
progressively revealed and emerge as motifs that form our theology. #hese
include9 the Jarriage Jotif/ -ridal Paradigm and the House of
God/Prayer motif. 2Worship with the word3 re$uires Harp and -owl
teams to read, outline and meditate these motifs while developing
language and lyrics that solidify relation in the inner man.
". 'evotional/0ontemplative Worship9 is a discipline of gaHing. !t is an
intentional, corporate posture of seeking the K4nowledge of God in the
ace of 0hrist3 =& 0or. 5> by meditating upon the -eauty, Ja@esty and
.plendor of the <ord as revealed in scripture. #his expression of Harp and
-owl is less a mode of intercession and more a mode of adoration.
-. Prophetic !ntercession9 incorporates the three previously mentioned
expressions in order to communicate the testimony of *esus and His
present leadership to the church. #he direction and emphasis is given to
the development of prophetic oracles for the benefit of encouraging,
exhorting and edifying the corporate gathering.

XV. OUTLINE FOR WORSHIP WITH THE WORD PRAYER FORMAT@
". We have five purposes for this prayer format9
&. #o immerse teams in the 2Word3 by systematically singing
through large portions of scripture
). #o develop scriptural language and confidence in prophetic
singing =teams will discover new passages to use in other
formats>
5. #o provide a context for worship teams to en@oy flowing together
in prayer
8. #o provide an anointed atmosphere that others in the room may
be blessed as they study
B. #o engage in spiritual warfare =this happens whenever we are in
agreement with Gods heart>.
Dsually, we will sing systematically through large portions of .cripture. "s a rule, we
will sing through a worship outline that will cover an entire chapter in the .cripture.
=%ccasionally, we will develop worship outlines along themes.>
!n this, we function as a 2singing seminary3 or as 2singing theologians3 as we sing a
chapter from the Psalms, .ong of .olomon, or 7evelation =7ev. +9568, ,, +5, +8, +(, &+6
&&> or other chapters easily 2sing able3. Jost often, we will choose a Psalm. Psalmody is
the practice of arranging the psalms for singing in worship.

(. We aim for 56B worship cycles =you may do more or less>. "s a

a. 'eveloping a passage with antiphonal singing and then we
begin another worship cycle by singing a worship song.
=However, if the antiphonal singing is flowing in a strong theme and you think you will
lose momentum by changing the music to sing a new worship song, then =occasionally>
you may choose to start the new worship cycle with a spontaneous chorus instead of a
regular worship song and then you can move into spontaneous singing from there.>
+:. #he W< has the primary responsibility to lead this set and to
choose the chapter and make worship outlines. #he W< may
delegate this to another as the W< invites partnership from any
on the team. #he W< will print the verses on the outline so that
all have the same translation and so they can edit out phrases that
are too hard to sing. ="im at fitting it on one page.>
++. %n the outline, break the chapter down into 86, cycles. Mou may
not use them all, but have them ready.
+&. Give each cycle a title. #he W< determines the order in which
the verses are sung when making the outlineE going through the
chapter in any order. =or example, in Psalm &5 you may start
with v.; 2Who is this 4ing of gloryO3 and then go to v. +6) in
one of the following cycles.>
+). #he team may use the same outline for several weeks =or as long

a. #he P< does not introduce a passage
b. #he singer lifts their bible during spontaneous singing to

&:. #he P<s goal is to make one phrase obvious to the prophetic
singers as the phrase from which to develop a theme.
&+. #he P< isolates only )6, words from the biblical sentence. #his
makes an easy target for the singers so that we reach a 2swell3 or

". 2'eveloping themes through antiphonal singing39 =+:6+8 minutes unless

&&. #he P< is to speak only short phrases =)6, words>, not sentences
