LIST OF ACTIVITIES(SA-II)

Chapter 5 Understanding Elementary Shapes



Activity 1 : Give 5 examples of one dimension, two dimension and three dimension
objects, and collect their pictures.
Activity 2 : Make Nets on cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone and pyramid.
Activity 3 : Identify (write) the faces, edges and vertices of cube, cuboid, cylinder,
sphere, cone, triangle, pyramid and square prism.

Chapter 7 Fraction

Activity 1 : Calculate and write the following:
a) What fraction of day you spend on playing?
b) What fraction of day you spend on studying?
c) What fraction of day you spend on watching TV?
d) What fraction of day you spend on sleeping?
Activity 2 : Write fraction of your marks in each subject, and arrange them in
ascending order.

Chapter 8 Decimals

Activity 1 : Weigh any five items and then express their weight in kilograms.
Add all weights.
Activity 2 : Prepare a model / chart to explain the addition of 0.6 and 0.05

Chapter 10 - Mensuration

Activity 1 : Plot your palm on the graph paper. Find the area of your palm.
Activity 2 : Measure the length and breadth of black board of your class, and find
its
perimeter and area.
Activity 3 : Measure the length and breadth of the base of your geometry box in
mm
and find its perimeter and area.

Chapter 11 - Algebra

Activity 1 : Write the present age your brother / sister, mother, father, grand-
father
and grand-mother. Assuming your age as X, express the relation of
your age with each of your family member.
Activity 2 : Make group of at least five students of your class. Let each member of
the group write the age of other members of the group, and the age of
their father and mother. Then express the relation of the age of
member
with that of his father and mother in algebraic form.

Chapter 12 Ratios and Proportions

Activity 1 : Out of total students in a class, find how many students like cricket,
football, badminton, and tennis, and find their ratio between cricket,
and tennis, football and badminton, and football and tennis.
Activity 2 : Collect the information about the number of ladies teachers and gents
teachers teaching classes VI to VII, and prepare a chart that depicts
this
information in the form of ratios as under:
a) Section- wise b) Class-wise, and c) Total strength at school

Activity 3 : Measure the length and width of the black board, window and gate of
your class and find the ratio of length and breadth of each of these.

Chapter 13 - Symmetry

Activity 1 : Collect leaves and petals of the flowers of five flowering plants. Paste
symmetrical and non-symmetrical leaves and petals of flowers on
different sheets.
Activity 2 : Collect all 26 capital English alphabets made of plastic and paste them
on separate sheets of paper having
a) Horizontal lines of symmetry
b) Vertical lines of symmetry
c) Both horizontal and vertical lines of symmetry, and
d) Having no lines of symmetry.

Chapter 14 - Practical Geometry
Activity 1 : Give five examples of perpendicular line, and parallel line.
Activity 2 : Collect five items which form different angles, such as acute, obtuse
etc.

ACTIVITIES FOR CLASS VII
RATIONAL NUMBER
1. To compare two given rational numbers the class may be divided into groups and let
each group compare and discuss the method of comparison by
(i)Representing the rational no. on number line.
(ii) Converting the rational no. into equivalent having same positive denominators.
(iii) Subtracting one rational no. from other.
2. To demonstrate the associative property on the number line by an activity.
EXPONENTS AND POWERS
1. Prepare a chart of laws exponents with examples.

ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS
1. Prepare a chart representing different types of polynomials with at least 5 examples of
each type of polynomials.
2. Ask ages of your friends, relatives and write their ages in terms of your age in the form of
algebraic expression ex. Your age is x year, yours friends age may be x+2 years and fathers
age may be 4x+1 years.
3. To familiarize with multiplication of binomial and monomials.
COMPARING QUANTITIES (RATIO AND PROPORTION)
1. Find out the no. of girls and boys in different classes from VI to viii and express them in
the form of ratios class wise on a chart paper as
(a) Boys to girls
(b) Boys to total students
(c) Girls to total students
2. Divide the class into four groups. Let each group note down the no. of cars &then no. of
scooters which cross between 8am to 9am at a particular crossing on the same day. One
group note the no. from north to south the other from south to north ,the third from east to
west &fourth from west to east. Represent this information in the form of different ratios on
the chart paper.
COMPARING QUANTITIES (PERCENTAGE)
1. Conduct a survey of 10 families of your neighborhood&find out income and expenditure
of each family &then express their saving as percentage.
2. Find out what percent of amount was spent on education by government of India during
last 5 years
TRIANGLES
1. Prepare a model to prove angle sum property of triangle.
2. By using matchsticks, prepare a model /chart to verify sum of any two sides of triangle is
greater than the third side.
3. Prepare a chart or a model to verify Pythagoras theorem.
4. Write about mathematician PYTHAGORAS
CONGRUENCE OF TRIANGLES
1. List 5 figure or things from your surroundings which are congruent.
2. By paper folding/cutting method verify that
(a)A diagonal of parallelogram bisects the parallelogram in into two congruent triangles.
(b) Diagonals of parallelogram bisect each other.
3. using squared paper verify that two congruent squares are equal in area and vice versa.
4. using squared paper verify that two congruent triangles are equal in area but converse is
not true.
SYMMETRY
1. Prepare a model to verify that the order of rotational symmetry of rectangle is 2.
2. Prepare a model to verify that the order of rotational symmetry of regular polygon is
same as no. of sides.
VISULASING SOLID SHAPES
1. Cut thee different nets for cube with flaps from card board and then glue them to
complete the cube.
2. Take three cubes of side 3cm each and paste each other side by side and find
dimensions of resulting figure and name the resulting figure.
MENSURATIONS
1. Prepare a cardboard /wooden model to find the area of parallelogram.
2. Measure the racing track of school playground which is semicircular at both ends and
find the distance covered in one round.
3. Draw a circle using bangle find the circumference by means of thread.
4. By paper cutting and pasting verify the formula of a triangle.
