Playlist:
Synchronize the playlists you create in the Windows Media
or by using the
music management software provided by the online music store
where you purchased the files.
Please refer to the respective software FAQs.
9. Why does my player not continue playback after a certain
audio/photo/video file?
The following file might be damaged or -protected.
Delete this file from the player.
10. Why does my player not work any more after a few days?
Maybe the battery is empty. Please reload it.
If this doesnt work please update your firmware.
11. How can I recover the player when firmware upgrading
failed?
1. Start the provided utility software Firmware Download on
your PC.
2. Slide and hold the Power switch into the direction of the ON
OFF symbol, while you connect the player to your computer.
While still holding the Power switch, please wait for about
60 seconds, until the utility software will detect the player again.
3. When the player is being detected, please start the firmware
update.
Now the player should be able to work again.
12. Why is there no display though the music track is being
played?
There are no required MP3 ID data available for the respective
music track.
You can supplement those by using, for example, the freeware
program WinAMP.
If you intend to do so, please refer to the respective software
instructions.
13. The player is not responding to keys while playing music.
Check if the hold switch is in hold position. Slide the hold switch
back to turn off the hold function.
14. What causes the sequence of music tracks being played?
The audio tracks in a folder are played in alphabetical order.
To maintain the alphabetical order, whole music albums should
be copied as a folder, not as single tracks .
To create a desired sequence, precede each file name before
copying with, for example, track numbers 01 - 99 or 1 01,
1 02 ... 3 01. The audio tracks will be played in numerical or-
der, then. Please notice that the internal sorting algorithm uses
the first 8 characters of the filename. So please dont put track
numbers on the end of the filename.
CONTENT 37 MAX-IVY AUDIOPHOTOVIDEO-PLAYER
(Not working for Windows XP and above.) Subsequently, you can
change the track order by using a tool like, for example, the free-
ware program ReOrganize! (www.oliver-frietsch.de). Possibly, the
Save button in ReOrganize mussed be clicked 2 - 3 times, until
the changes are accepted (in between, a track must be moved
back and forth).
To make sure that your music files will be found, please change
into the respective folder/sub-folder.
15. Why does my 1GB / 2GB / 4GB player display less
memory in its menu?
This is a rounding error caused by the rounding predications
1024 Bytes come up to 1 KB and 1024 KB come up to 1 MB.
When you connect the player to the computer and look for the
properties of the drive you will find the correct value of the
players memory capacity.
Beside that some memory is needed for the player firmware.
16. How to attach the carrying strap?
The rubber case (contained in the package content) is provided
for attaching the carrying strip. First thread the thin loop of the
carrying strap from the outside through the top hole and then
from the inside through the second hole. Thread the thicker end
of the carrying strap through the loop and pull the strap tight.
Attach the rubber case to the player. (Refer to CONNECTIONS)
17. Why cant I directly copy and paste music tracks from an
audio CD to the player?
The audio CD content displayed in the explorer does not show
music data but index data, which can not be directly copied to an
MP3/WMA player.
The audio CD data must be converted into MP3 file format first
by using an appropriate tool like CDex, for example.
After converting, you can copy your music files to the player.
18. What are the differences between the recording formats
PCM, MS ADPCM, and IM ADPCM?
PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) is the standard Windows WAV
format for uncompressed audio files.
ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) is a not
loss-free compression mechanism.
The two ADPCM encoding mechanisms MS ADPCM and
IM ADPCM dont differ in quality but only in the compression
technique applied. Compression rate is 4:1.
Microsoft ADPCM will be directly recognized by almost all
Windows versions. The other encoding systems can be used for
direct import to other devices like mobile phones, for example.
19. Does my player work under Linux as well?
Since Kernel Ver. 2.6, the HotPlug&Play function for USB devices
which is standard for operating systems like Windows and Mac
OS, is supported by Linux as well.
So, theres no problem to operate the Maxfield player comfortably
by using Linux.
If you use older Linux kernels please refer to http://www.linux-
usb.org.
Sorry, but due to the big number of current Linux versions we
cannot offer you technical Linux support.
20. Why cant I use the full memory of my player?
1. In the players main directory, only a limited amount of folders/
files can be compiled.
When using the player as an external storage device you can
easily store more than 1,500 files in every sub-directory.
To keep up lucidity, you should avoid putting all the music files
into the main directory of the player. Instead, the files should be
distributed among a variety of folders.
2. If the information of 1. doesnt help, please re-format the
player, and afterwards try again to transfer your data.
CONTENT 38 MAX-IVY AUDIOPHOTOVIDEO-PLAYER
21. Why does my player display Incorrect format - reformat
the player when I switch it on?
The player has been formatted with the wrong system, for
example NTFS, Mac OS or Unix.
To enable it again for playing audio tracks, please format the play-
er in FAT/FAT32 format.
If formatting was not successful, please reinstall the firmware
while the player is in Recovery mode.
Maybe you have to use reset hole whileconnecting and holding
MENU button in this process so that the device can be recognized
again by the firmware update software.
22. What determines the data transfer speed?
The USB data transfer speed acts in accordance with the used PC
system (regarding processor, USB controller, load, etc.).
Using Windows 98SE, for example, the maximum data transfer
speed is USB Full Speed.
Even Windows XP needs at least Service Pack 1 for providing
USB High Speed data transfer.
Please check the MS Windows device manager, if a correct
driver for your USB 2.0 controller is installed. A correct USB 2.0
controller and installed driver would show an entry like
...USB 2.0 enhanced Hostcontroller in the USB controller
branch.
A connected USB 1.1 device like a hub or a card reader reduces
the transfer speed down to 1.1. Please disconnect those devices
in order to use high speed transfer speed.
Flash memory can never come up to the speed of a USB hard
disk.
24. Is the player able to show long file and folder names in
navigation?
Yes.
25. Why does my PC not detect the player with Windows XP?
Maxfield USB devices support Hot Plug & Play.
That means you dont need additional files when using Windows
XP, because the system accesses to Windows internal drivers.
In case this automatical detection does not work, please contact
support of your PC vendor, or reinstall your operating system.
26. Can I use the player with my old USB 1.1 connection as
well?
Yes. The player is downwards compatible to USB 1.1.
27. Why do I have problems with WMAs?
Music files downloaded from sites like Musicload, MSN Music
and other download services must be directly copied to the player
by MS Windows MediaPlayer
.
Even for audio CDs ripped with the MediaPlayer the property
rights might already be spoken for. Therefore, in this case, the re-
spective tracks can be further transferred to mobile devices with
the MediaPlayer only, not with the Windows Explorer.
28. Why is my battery sooner low than announced?
Referring to quality and type of data, the player needs more
power and a higher capacity is necessary. A WMA-file, for examp-
le, needs more power than an MP3-track with the same quality.
29. Why are the two ends of the earphones different in
length?
For the purpose of strain relief, the longer part of the earphones
is supposed to be worn behind the head.
CONTENT 39 MAX-IVY AUDIOPHOTOVIDEO-PLAYER
30. Why does the player not save the volume setting when
being turned off?
Actually, the player does remember the volume setting, but to
avoid any hearing damage, the volume will automatically be tur-
ned down to 60 % from the upper level.
31. How can I upgrade the player firmware?
1. Download the newest firmware version (highest version num-
ber) at www.maxfield.de to your computer hard disk.
2. Unpack the ZIP file into a folder. Please make sure that the
directory structure (folder, subfolders) in the ZIP file remains as
it is.
3. Install the Firmware Download software to your Windows
PC and, after successful installation, start the program via
Start > Programs > Portable Media Player > Firmware Down-
load.
4. Connect the player with your PC via USB and, after device
detection, upgrade the operating system of the player by the
clicking the Start button in the Firmware Download program.
Caution: Do not disconnect the player from PC during upgrading
process.
32. How to play WMA and DRM protected files?
WMA files can have DRM protection. In this case the file con-
tent is encrypted with a key. For playback and decoding it is
necessary to have DRM license files on your computer. DRM
license can limit your rights for using these functions. For in-
stance, it can allow only to playback and prohibit conversion into
other formats. When you download music from the internet sites
that require you to pay per song, these licenses may be included
with the download.
In order to play these encrypted WMA files with your player, you
will need to use the Windows Media Player to copy them to your
player. The traditional Drag & Drop method will not work.
Here is what you have to do:
1) Open your WMA file using your Windows Media Player
2) Click Sync. and Start Synchron. in Windows Media
Player.
3) Select MTP Player as your device.
If you dont have a Windows Media Player or if your version of
Windows Media Player is outdated, you can download the latest
version for free from Microsofts website:
www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/
Some download services like Yahoo music or Napster To Go just
rent their DRM music to the user. For this content your player
must be connected after special time intervalls like 1 month to
your PC to renew the license, otherwise you cannot play the
music on your portable device any more. Please refer to the docu-
mentation of or your contract with your music download service.
33. Why does the screen displays nothing after turning on the
player?
Check if the battery is low and needs to be charged: recharge the
